A DAY IN SEVILLE ITINERARY

1 Day In Seville Itinerary: Morning

1. Start with a Traditional Sevillian Breakfast

Start your 1 day itinerary in Seville with a classic tostada con tomate (toast with tomato) and a café con leche at a local café like La Cacharrería or my favourite place, the delicious Filo’s, a few steps from the Cathedral for fresh juices, excellent coffee and healthy toasts – trust me this is a novelty in Seville.

It opens at 8am, so you could easily fit it in before a tour of the three main historical sights, which is what I suggest you do next!

2. Visit Seville Cathedral & La Giralda Tower

After your Sevillian breakfast, your first attraction stop in Seville is a visit to the Seville Cathedral it’s the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and houses Christopher Columbus’s tomb and the artwork from famous artists such as the well-known artist, Murillo.

It’s well worth going inside this Cathedral, it’s really very different from all the other Cathedrals I’ve ever visited across Europe! I recommend booking your entry tickets in advance as tickets to the Cathedral are known to sell out, especially in the morning.

The Cathedral is a truly captivating historical sight in Seville’s Old Town, but to make it even better, climb La Giralda for breathtaking city views, there’s 34 ramps in total and once you’re at the top of the bell tower you’ll be blown away!

3. Wander Through the Real Alcázar & Alcázar Gardens Seville

Next, explore the Real Alcázar, a stunning royal palace known for its Moorish architecture and intricate tilework, it’s absolutely stunning especially the gold ceilings and iconic patio with peacocks, but what makes this UNESCO World Heritage site really special are the gardens!

DON’T MISS the Alcázar gardens Seville, a lush paradise with fountains and exotic plants, wandering around the gardens was a real highlight of my trip to Seville and you might even recognise parts of it from Game of Thrones!

Tickets to enter the Palace and Alcazar Gardens do sell out fast as its THE most popular attraction in Seville – and numbers are capped per day! I highly recommend booking your tickets to the Alcazar in advance of your trip, fortunately, the Alcazar even offers skip-the-line tickets!!

If you want a deeper dive into Seville’s top attraction, check my complete guide to the Alcazar Gardens Seville, it includes how to experience it, ticket options and more!!

4. Discover Seville Old Town & Santa Cruz

Stroll through Seville old town, particularly Santa Cruz, the historic Jewish quarter, it’s the most beautiful area in Seville. I’ve spent hours wandering the charming cobbled streets with decorated balconies and orange-filled courtyards, they are a delight to explore!

5. Indulge in Tapas for Lunch

While you’re in the most historic and charming part of Seville, stop for tapas and glass of orange wine!

For an authentic Spanish experience, grab lunch on an outside table at Las Teresas or Casa Roman – they are both in the same spot and perfect for absorbing the old town atmosphere.

Try a couple of local favourites such as espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas) – plus a couple of hand-made croquettes – I always order them!

If you’re looking for something a little fancier you can’t go wrong with El Pinton! It’s a beautiful light and airy restaurant with a fantastic ambience and food, I discovered El Pinton after a visit to the Cathedral – just around the corner and recommend it!

6. Walk Along the Guadalquivir River

A perfect way to continue your 1 day in Seville Spain is by strolling along the Guadalquivir River. You’ll see the Torre del Oro, a historic watchtower and all the colourful buildings, charming bridges and palm trees that line river banks.

The Guadalquivir separates the neighbourhood of Triana from the city, – if you have time you can cross the bridge and wander through it, you’ll also see Seville’s historic bullring, the oldest in Spain near here.

7. Visit the Iconic Plaza de España

And, the last activity on your 1 day in Seville itinerary is the iconic Plaza de EspanaA stunning semi-circular plaza adorned with colourful tiles and elaborate bridges representing Spain’s provinces, it’s stunning in the bright Seville sunshine!

In the centre you’ll see a fountain and moat – you can rent a rowboat for a fun experience or just wander around and take lots of pictures like I did!

Plaza de Espana is also a free activity! I recommend allocating an hour to see it properly – you can even take a stroll through the Maria Luisa Park on the way back to the old town.

8. Watch an Authentic Flamenco Show

No Seville travel guide is complete without mentioning flamenco, it originated here after all! Catch an authentic performance at Casa de la Memoria, the dancers put on a wonderful show, I cannot recommend this intimate venue enough for an unforgettable cultural experience.

You’ll need to buy your ticket in advance as the seating is limited, if it’s already full I also recommend Tablao Flamanco Los Gallios in Santa Cruz, it’s similar with equally great performances.

9. End with a Rooftop Cocktail

Wrap up your travel in Seville at a rooftop bar like La Terraza at EME Hotel, where you can sip a cocktail with a spectacular view of La Giralda – illuminated at night.

La Terraza is my favourite place in Seville for sipping cocktails on a rooftop terrace, it has a vibrant atmosphere and is very popular at sunset, if you want the best seat in the house – arrive early!!

Is One Day Enough Time In Seville?

One day in Seville is just enough time to see Seville’s main highlights – if you plan it right using this Seville itinerary! But to see everything at a relaxed pace and include a few more hidden gems in Andalucía – like a day trip to Cordoba, 2 days in Seville is ideal.

Best Time To Visit Seville, Spain

It’s good to know the best time to visit Seville! Ideally, spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) offer nice temperatures and fewer crowds, making sightseeing more enjoyable, in spring you’ll get more flowers though!

Summer can be extremely hot and busy, so plan accordingly if you visit then and don’t forget to book a hotel with a pool!

WHERE TO STAY IN SEVILLE

If you’re staying for one night in Seville, the best area to stay is within the old town, Santa Cruz neighbourhood or nearby, this is the most central location in Seville and the most convenient for your 1 day in Seville!

In this central location, you’ll be close to all the main historical sights including the Cathedral and the Alcazar Palace, atmospheric streets, top restaurants and rooftop bars.

Here’s three of the best boutique hotels in Seville to stay in Seville Old Town.

Mercer Plaza Sevilla

Mercer Plaza Sevilla, is a lovely hotel with a very attractive roof terrace and pool area in the heart of the cities’ old town. I first visited this hotel when it was a Nobu hotel and the details haven’t changed, it is just as luxurious with upscale rooms and city views.

Hotel Mercer Sevilla

Hotel Mercer Sevilla , is a stylish 5 star hotel in the historic centre with a gorgeous courtyard, what really impressed me the most about this hotel was how friendly the staff were, nothing is too much and of course the aesthetics, my room came with orange-tree views!

Vincci Seleccion

Vincci Seleccion is a fantastic stylish hotel in the old town, just moments from the Cathedral of Seville. This luxury boutique is modern and fresh with a beautiful restaurant and rooftop pool area, it preserves the style of the authentic Sevillian manor house it once was.

SEVILLE IN A DAY FAQ

Is Seville walkable?

Yes, Seville is an extremely walkable city and it’s also pretty flat, you can get around it on foot very easily to all the main highlights featured in this 1 day Seville itinerary without needing transport in-between, it’s ideal if you only have a day in Seville.

Is one day in Seville enough?

Yes – if pushed you can visit all the things to see in Seville in one day- if you start early in the morning and plan it well (using this Seville itinerary!).

If you can squeeze 2 days in Seville you can certainly add more historical sights such as Hotel Alfonso XIII and Setas de Seville – the largest wooden structure in the world, restaurants and enjoy a leisurely pace.

If you’re looking for more things to see and do in Seville for 2 days or longer, check out my recent post 25 Magical Things To Do In Seville Spain!

Is Seville or Granada better?

I love visiting both places, they are beautiful Andalusian cities, Granada has the world-renowned Alhambra and historic Albacin (a bucket list attraction), built on a hill.

Seville is best known for its Gothic Cathedral, Alcazar Gardens Seville and traditional Flamenco, it’s super vibrant, choosing one over the other depends on your preferences!

Is Seville expensive to visit?

Seville is one of the most affordable cities in Europe, especially as it’s a walkable city with reasonable prices for local wine and small tapas, sometimes the tapas comes free with your wine! A Seville day trip is not going to cost you a fortune!
