My Top Picks!
Don’t have time to read the whole post? Here’s my top picks for the best hotels in Tulum Pueblo!
- Luxury-Boho Boutique Hotel: Hotel Bardo
- Best *NEW* 5-Star Hotel: Hotel Milam
- Best Location: Kimpton Aluna Resort
- Best Value: Zenses Wellness & Yoga

Why choose Tulum Pueblo?
Tulum Pueblo (AKA Tulum Town) is a great alternative place to stay in Tulum for a local flavour, the area brimming with authentic Mexican foodie spots to try and also some cool cafes and nightlife options like Nana’s Rooftop bar and the infamous Mojito Bar!
Downtown Tulum is 10 minutes from the nearest cenotes and around a 30-minute cycle ride to the main private beach, and the whole vibe is down-to-earth – sun-bleached buildings, taco stands and local life. It couldn’t be any more different from the lively tourist-focused Hotel Zone experience – but you will get a luxurious hotel at a fraction of the cost and a bigger pool!
You’ll find some great hotels to rival the beach, such as 5-star Hotel Bardo, Una Vida and Arca; these hotels are quite special, surrounded by tropical nature while being moments from the town’s best restaurants and attractions – if you don’t mind cycling around!
Since my very first visit 8 years ago, Tulum Town has developed a lot. It’s still surrounded by thick jungle, but as the area grows, the borders blur with new neighbourhoods, hippy La Veleta and up-market Aldea Zama – bringing you a step closer to the beach!
THE BEST HOTELS IN TULUM PUEBLO – BOUTIQUE TO LUXURY!
If I’ve convinced you that Tulum Pueblo is a good idea, below is the breakdown of hotels in Tulum Pueblo – for all budgets, my top picks, including tips and a list of best features from jungle infinity pools to epic yoga studios, spa’s and more!
1. HOTEL BARDO (Adult Only)
- Best for: Couples, honeymoons, luxury seekers!
- Location: Tulum Pueblo – secluded area
- Features: Pool, on-site restaurant, spa

Hotel Bardo is one of the most well-known 5-star hotels in Tulum Pueblo, with all the bohemian appeal, offering tranquil grounds, a lovely indulgent spa and a swimming pool!
Situated on a private road, this hotel feels like you’ve stumbled upon a quiet luxury oasis; it’s incredible! As for the stay itself, it’s quite an experience!
Beautiful hotel Bardo is very Tulum-centric, with thatched roofs and mystical rooms, plus there’s a gorgeous, vibey restaurant and pool, so nice you will not want to leave! I recommend going the full hog and booking a villa with a heated plunge pool for the ultimate Bardo experience!

With an ‘oasis’ feel, the hotel is a little way from the main attractions in Tulum (a 15-minute walk into the centre of town), so it’s better suited to luxury-loving couples who wish to ‘unplug’ and enjoy the facilities this hotel offers!
At beautiful Hotel Bardo, you can relax and enjoy the tranquil vibes and luxury touches – it’s one of the more popular hotels in Tulum Pueblo, so make sure to reserve your stay in advance, check availability here!
2. UNA VIDA HOTEL
- Best for: Couples, eco lovers, quiet escapes
- Location: Tulum Pueblo – secluded area
- Features: Two pools, garden, yoga, restaurant & bar

Una Vida is a eco boutique hotel in Tulum Pueblo with 11 individually decorated bohemian suites, a spa, leafy green tropical garden and swimming pool – a magical jungle experience for a wonderful, slightly rustic, authentic stay!
At this intimate property, you’ll be away from the busy areas so you can enjoy a more peaceful ambience, while being just a 10-15-minute walk from restaurants and bars of Tulum Centre.
Una Vida is one of the coolest eco hotels in Tulum Pueblo, the interiors are filled with dream catchers, local crafts and a zen-like pool area, plus you can also use the facilities at the sister property hotel Bardo just next door!!
Luxury houses come with their own private pool for the ultimate relaxing experience! I recommend Una Vida for couples due to the quieter location and intimate feel of the hotel.
If you have fallen for Una Vida, a lovely eco boutique hotel and know you want to stay here, make sure to book your stay today!
3. ZENSES WELLNESS & YOGA (Adult Only)
- Best for: Affordable boutique gem for yoga lovers!
- Location: Tulum City Centre – central
- Features: Pool, spa, rooftop yoga, terraces & garden

Zenses Wellness and Yoga is a hidden gem in the Tulum Town Centre, just off the main road (Av. Coba) with easy access to some amazing breakfast spots in Tulum like Eat at Leif’s and Alma Verde!
I stopped here for a week-long stay, it’s one of the more affordable boutique hotels in Tulum Pueblo with bonus free yoga on the tropical rooftop terrace; it’s a great meeting spot if you’re travelling solo, but what won me over were the stunning rooms!
The beautifully decorated suites (see my posing below) come with a private patio and hammock, there’s also a nice pool area to relax and a maze of tropical gardens – it really feels like you’re in the jungle!

Zenses is a 4-star and very affordable-luxury for longer stays (the rooms beat some 5-star hotels). I rented a bike for the week and cycled 5-10 minutes to the Hunab Lifestyle Centre and a further 15 minutes to the private beach and clubs – I felt very much at home here!
I recommend this boutique hotel for a central stay in Tulum Pueblo, it’s like a little oasis. The only thing to note is that the street itself is not particularly attractive; it has a local – lived-in feel, I was put off when the taxi pulled up, but once inside, it’s lovely!
If you are looking for a gorgeous boutique hotel with rooftop yoga, juices and privacy, book a stay at Zenses Wellness & Spa now!
4. LAYLA TULUM (Adult Only)
- Best for: Couples, friend groups, solo travel, social butterflies!
- Location: Tulum City Centre – central
- Features: Pool, spa, yoga, rooftop terrace, garden & restaurants

Layla Tulum is a beautiful adult-only property, the Moroccan and Mexican style is truly unlike any other hotel in Tulum Pueblo and the central location ensures you don’t miss any experiences in Tulum!
If you want to be near the nightlife of central Tulum, Layla is ideal as you’ll be around the corner from many restaurants or you can spend the evening relaxing on the hotel’s own amazing rooftop terrace for sundowners.
The raid-style rooms, with pretty mosaic tiles, make this boutique hotel particularly unique, and some boast balconies and private pools overlooking the tropical gardens and pools – it’s the standout feature of this hotel!

Layla is a quality hidden gem and one of the best hotels in Tulum Pueblo that’s popular with solo’s, couples and romantics – there’s even a beach club for ceremonies!

5. HOTEL MUARÉ (Adult Only)
- Best for: Couples, honeymoon, design lovers, luxury escapes!
- Location: La Veleta neighbourhood
- Features: Wellness centre, yoga, spa, pool & free bikes!

The stunning bohemian-luxe hotel, Hotel Muaré is one of my favourite hotels in Tulum Pueblo near the cool new neighbourhood Veleta – a lovely, quiet spot between the town and the beach!
Hotel Muaré has many features, including a large outdoor swimming pool resembling a lake, plush sun loungers, a gorgeous restaurant and mixology bar area and a healing centre for wellness seekers! There’s something for everyone here!
What I love most about this hotel are the spacious rooms, which are stylishly decorated and inviting, and some come with private heated plunge pools, guests love the relaxing atmosphere in particular – I would definitely like to stay here!
(You can see the quality of the new sun loungers below and the stylish suites!).

But, for a quieter location, you have to be prepared to rent a bike or organise transport through the hotel to get to the nearest restaurants and nightlife in Tulum Town.
Another thing to be cautious of if you’re hiring cars or scooters is that some of the roads are not yet properly paved – i.e. bumpy (the gripe with many roads due to speedy development in the area)! I would check the latest reviews or with the hotel themselves for updates – things do change quickly!
If you’re looking for an oasis near Tulum Town, you can feel good about staying in Hotel Muare – reserve your stay here!
6. NAALA TULUM
- Best for: Great value, convenient stays in Tulum Pueblo!
- Location: Tulum City Centre – central
- Features: Rooftop pool, garden & restaurant

Naala Tulum is one of the centrally located hotels in Tulum Pueblo, situated along the main road Avenida Coba, surrounded by a string of quality restaurants and cafes, making it the ideal choice for solo travellers!
At this hotel, you can hire bikes for cycling on the main footpath of Av. Coba towards the beach – directly from the property, and it’s on the best side of Tulum Town to easily access the attractions, which are virtually on your doorstep!
Each room comes with a garden view, patio or balcony, they are simply decorated with Mexican colourful touches. I’d argue that the main reason to stay at this hotel is the fantastic rooftop pool, tropical gardens and handy location!
Naala Tulum is an affordable 4-star and a perfect base for exploring – you can walk to the nearest restaurants and bars and taxis for further afield can be flagged right outside the door!

Casa Agape is an affordable 4-star boutique hotel and one of the most centrally located hotels in Tulum Pueblo, close to shops, bars and restaurants. It’s super convenient and made for urban-chic couples!
The style of the rooms caught my attention, they are very tastefully decorated and have a similar aesthetic to Zenses hotel (where I stayed), they each come with a patio or balcony, which are totally private and feel as though you’re in the jungle!

Kimpton Aluna Resort is a stunning hotel in the new up-market neighbourhood Aldea Zama (a step closer to the beach), less than a 10-minute walk from downtown Tulum and a stone’s throw to one of my favourite breakfast spots in Tulum – Alma Verde!
At this medium-sized luxurious hotel, you can choose between a range of spacious and modern rooms from premium queen rooms and four-poster beds to king suites with a lovely furnished patio and outdoor private bathtub – the vibe here is more ‘polished’ than rustic!
Stylish Kimpton Aluna Resort offers plush beach-style cabanas around the pools (yes, there are two of them), beautiful spaces, hidden nooks and warm tones, plus bike hire is free, so you can make the most of the brilliant location!

I highly recommend this all-round hotel for most people; couples, friends, first visits and especially undecided solo travellers! It has everything, upmarket facilities, that special Tulum feel and a great location!

AKRA Tulum has very much an indoor-outdoor vibe, mixing natural materials like bamboo, stone and thatch roofs with modern facilities and gorgeous style – plus you can enjoy yoga sessions or take part in a wellness experience!
I think couples will love this hotel in particular, it is a tranquil place with only a few indulgent suites and not forgetting this property is adult only and surrounded by nature, you’ll hear the birds in the morning!

10. BONUS: HOTEL MILAM
- Best for: Those brand new luxury hotel seekers!
- Location: La Valetta Neighbourhood
- Features: Swimming pool, swim-up bar spa, restaurant, bar, wellness & yoga

Hotel Milam is a stunning luxury 5-star hotel, it might be one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever seen! Just minutes from the nearest coffee shops and restaurants brand new Hotel Milam, blends luxury, tranquillity and top amenities for an incredible stay!
What really makes this hotel so special and a standout among the Tulum Pueblo Hotels is the gorgeous pool, sun terrace and lush gardens. You could be very happy lounging around this hotel for the day, starting your morning with a fantastic breakfast – and yoga session with amazing views!
I love the plush and private sun loungers and would definitely enjoy a few cocktails from the cool swim-up bar, which looks like an egg (but in a good way), the curvy designs – including the swimming pool, are really something else!

There’s lots of funky spaces and designs at Hotel Miram, high thatched boho ceilings, ceramic details and quality bespoke furnishings and a lounge that looks like it’s paved in gold – I love all of it!
Hotel Miram is definitely a splurge, but oh so worth it! This is the hotel I’d pick if I were staying in the Tulum Pueblo area again!!

INSIDER TIPS FOR STAYING IN HOTELS IN TULUM PUEBLO
Best Time Of Year To Stay
Tulum is hot all year round, but there are two distinct seasons – wet or dry! The main time to visit is between November to March, it’s perfect sunbathing weather and it avoids the rainy months and seaweed between late April and October. I visited at the end of February and it wasn’t overly busy, but the peak tourist months are November to January!
Getting From The Town To The Beach
Hiring a bike and cycling is the best way to get from the town to the beach, it takes around 15-20 minutes to cycle along the main footpath next to Avenida Coba to the beginning of the beach road (AKA Hotel Zone). Cycling along the iconic beach road is one of the best things to do in Tulum!
You can also hire scooters, which are better than cars due to parking and uneven road surfaces, but in the evenings it’s best to book taxis, as walking in the dark and navigating busy or very quiet roads is not the safest idea in Mexico!
Note; the taxi fee to and from Tulum Pueblo and the beach is normally $30 each-way.

Psst! If you prefer to be beachfront, check out my ultimate guide to the best beach hotels in Tulum, boutique to luxury for tranquil or vibrant stays!
How To Hire A Bike In Tulum
First, check with your hotel for offers; sometimes bikes are even free. Alternatively, hire independently with highly-rated Ola Bike Tulum, their daily rate is $13 – and they deliver!
(Bike racks and private paid parking lots are plentiful in Tulum).
Tip! As the beach is long and hidden from view, I recommend planning ahead and choosing a hotel or club to navigate to, like CoCo Tulum or Ahau Tulum!
Restaurants & Nightlife In Tulum Pueblo
You can find clusters of restaurants and bars in Tulum Pueblo and Aldea Zama – a 10-minute walk away. My favourites are Alma Verde, Delicio and Raw Love, they are perfect brunch places in Tulum! For iced coconut lattes, go to Eat At Leifs – a side-of-the-road green van and terrace.
For nightlife, I recommend vibey Nana’s rooftop bar or funky Bateys Mojito Bar, for live music, cocktails and good vibes, it’s like an institution in Tulum, especially on Friday nights!

A Note On Hotel Expectations
For stays in Tulum Pueblo, you might not get the beachfront access, but you have tropical gardens, spas yoga and restaurants! Hotels in Tulum Pueblo are not your typical hotel; you can expect cool designs, bohemian looks and in some cases, the feeling of being surrounded by jungle!
As I mentioned, not all hotels in Tulum Pueblo are downtown, in fact, the best ones are likely found on the outskirts, where the atmosphere is more peaceful!
Weigh up what is more important to you, easy access to the restaurants and nightlife or a quieter escape? For the best of both, you could consider staying nearer to the newer upmarket area of Aldea Zama – closer to the beach!
