With so many beautiful hotels on the beach in Tulum, Mexico, it can feel overwhelming deciding which to pick and what area of the beach will suit your trip best and Tulum’s beach is 6-miles long, so knowing what’s on offer really helps!
As the beach is the most convenient and desirable area to stay in Tulum, you can expect the best boutique and luxury hotels, cool designs and bohemian – sometimes rustic looks – there isn’t a single white building or high-rise on this beach! (It’s my favourite of the Yucatan!)

(10-15 minute cycle to the main beachfront restaurants).
Middle Beach (Hub of the Action)
Middle Beach (main part of the beach) is known as the social hub of the Hotel Zone. This is where you’ll find the highest concentration of beach clubs, such as Bagatelle, iconic Tulum designs like Ven la Luz statue at Ahau Hotel, vibey restaurants and general nightlife. It’s the most convenient spot and desirable for first-time visitors!
South Beach (Tranquil boho Vibes)
Tulum’s South Beach is widely known as the bohemian-lux area of the beach, a serene spot near Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. It’s the widest part of the white sand beach with the best jungle restaurants, gorgeous low-key boutique hotels, yoga spots, juice bars like infamous Mama Matcha and bohemian beach clubs such as Nomade – it’s my personal favourite beach!

Located on a quiet and gorgeous seaweed-free section of Middle Beach, the beautiful Hotel Ma’xanab Tulum is a 5-star oasis with private beach access and stylish suites for every type of trip, including ocean-view suites with your very own pool for those extra special stays!
One of the things I loved when I personally went to check it out, except for the amazing beachfront infinity pool and setting, is the cool aesthetics! A cross between beachy and boho chic, which looks so serene and is my style to a tee – it is exactly what you hope to find on Tulum’s beach!

I really liked the vibe at this boutique. I stopped for a week in February, the ocean view room won me over and it was exactly how I imagined: beachy white wood, minimal decor, huge windows and a good-sized terrace for relaxing – I spent a lot of time reading a book in the hammock here!
Take a look at my posing from the balcony above, I loved my room, but you can also book beach front for a clear ocean view! (I’d also like to mention how quiet it is, you don’t hear any noise, not even from your balcony!).
I enjoyed lazing around the beach beds after breakfast, CoCo Unlimited has a relaxed feel and some good 2-4-1 cocktail deals for the afternoon from the cute beach bar, I really recommend it!

Ahau Tulum is a fantastic vibey hotel right in the centre of Middle Beach, it’s perfect if you plan on taking in the nightlife on your trip to Tulum, it’s just a moment away on the Beach Road behind the hotel!
I’ve visited this hotel often, not only is it situated on a lovely part of the soft white sand beach, but you’ll also find one of the best smoothie bars in the area; Raw Love, serving healthy breakfast bowls right from the beach – it’s my fave!
Also, the iconic sculpture Ven La Luz, marks the entrance to the hotel, it’s a must-do photo spot, the whole vibe here is inviting and guests love the cabin-style rooms with boho details, especially the ocean view junior suites!

Chiringuito Tulum is a lovely new beachfront boutique hotel, modern, stylish and exactly what you would expect to find in Tulum’s sought-after South Beach beach!
At this gorgeous hideaway, there’s lots of space and lounges to relax! The whole vibe is very zen-like with cool polished concrete, thatched roofs, white walls and pretty gardens to sunbathe amongst, it’s definitely more chic than rustic!
I treated myself to one night in the ocean view room with private pool and all I can say is that it exceeded my expectations, you can tell it’s new, the quality of the furnishings and condition are perfect and the view spectacular! If this room is available, don’t hesitate to book!
The quieter location and idyllic setting between the palm trees and beach, is perfect and it’s in great company near hotels; Nomade and Be Tulum, I honestly think Chiringuito is one of the best-looking beach hotels in Tulum Mexico, it’s lighter and brighter and matches my style to a tee!

It’s been a popular Tulum beach hotel for years, their wellness programmes are one of the best in the area and the creative energy around the hotel really hits the mark – hammocks and artworks are everywhere you look!
And not only is the hotel incredible, but it has one of the best beach clubs and beachfront restaurants in Tulum! I haven’t stayed at Nomade, but I have spent a lot of time here and really recommend it, especially for spa and wellness lovers!!

Olas Tulum is a friendly eco-boutique beachfront hotel in Tulum with an intimate tropical setting that offers just 8 tranquil rooms. It’s made for relaxing and some quality beach time!
While I haven’t personally stayed here, a friend of mine stopped for a week and loved the ambience, beautifully decorated rooms and down-to-earth vibe, it’s one of the best hotels on the beach in Tulum to get away from it all!

BEACH HOTELS IN TULUM MEXICO INSIDER TIPS
Best Time Of Year To Stay
Tulum is hot all year round, but there are two distinct seasons – wet or dry! The main time to visit is between November to March, it’s perfect sunbathing weather, and it avoids the rainy months and seaweed between late April and October. I visited at the end of February and it wasn’t overly busy, but the peak tourist months are November to January!
How To Avoid The Seaweed
You may have heard about the seaweed that can sometimes wash up on the beach, it is ugly and annoying, but also unpredictable! Usually the worst of the seaweed (also called sargassum) crops up just before the wet season in April, but it can occur at any time.
Some hotels, like Nomade, have nets in the sea to protect the beach, which works extremely well, while other beachfront hotels in Tulum clear the seaweed daily. Another great reason to book a hotel with more amenities, especially a pool, is for those seaweed days!
When To Book
Book early! I recommend booking at least 4-6 months in advance as Tulum Beach is popular and the best hotels sell out fast – especially the boutiques as they only have a dozen or so suites! So if you have your eye on something, secure it today!
Know What To Expect
Luxury hotels in Tulum do not look like your typical 5-star hotel; you can expect cool designs, rustic looks and natural materials!
The decor is mainly crafted wood with large thatched ceilings and low rises – all the beachfront bungalows are low-rise, two floors at the most, which appear earthy and at one with the jungle backdrop!
How To Get Around
Staying on the beachfront in Tulum is the ideal location, you can take leisurely walks along the beach and stop somewhere new for lunch each day!
Hiring a bike and cycling along the beach road is also one of the most popular things to do in Tulum, it’s lined with boutiques for shopping, smoothie bars and cool restaurants for vibey jungle dinners!
In the evenings, unless your hotel is surrounded by nightlife, it’s best to get a taxi in the dark for safety and because of the distances, as I mentioned, the beach is 6 miles long!
You can also easily get to the main attractions in Tulum from the beach, such as Tulum Ruins, which is just a 25-30-minute cycle ride away from the furthest beach!
