1. SPLIT TO HVAR FERRY

  • Duration: 50 minutes -1.5 – hours

Getting from Split to Hvar by ferry is one of the most cost-effective ways to reach the island. Ferries and catamarans from Split to Hvar run frequently throughout the peak summer months (June until September), up to 18 times daily!

The journey by ferry from Split to Hvar is very comfortable, they offer free seat allocation, air-conditioning, cafe bars for drinks and pastries and an outdoor area where you can enjoy the sea breeze!

Also, your luggage stays with you on the same level and often there are porters to help place it somewhere sensible for speedy boarding – at least this is what I’ve experienced!

How To Get To Split To Hvar By Ferry?

Two ferry companies serve this route, Jadrolinija and Krilo (Kapetan Luka), Jardrolinija line is more popular and the nicer of the options – if you book the high-speed catamaran!

How long is the ferry from split to hvar?

The ferry takes from 50 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the ferry company you choose and whether you’re travelling to Stari Grad or Hvar Town!

Note: The high speed ferry Split to Hvar is only 50 minutes!

How to book ferry tickets from split to hvar?

Hvar is extremely busy over the summer months and Split to Hvar Town is the most common route, I recommend reserving at least a week in advance!

If you are travelling around Croatia by car, it’s possible to book the car ferry from Split to Hvar to continue your road trip. It is worth it if you’re staying on the island for 4 days or more!

With your own vehicle, you can explore the rugged interior, smaller towns of Jelsa and Vbroska and visit wineries, vineyards and beaches along the gorgeous coastline! Places not many tourists get to see!!

How To Get From Split To Hvar By Car?

You can book the car ferry from Spilt to Hvar directly with the Jadrolinja ferry company online, the route is Split to Stari Grad. You must reserve in advance and register your vehicle details.

The total journey time is 1 hour 50 minutes, but allow at least 30 minutes beforehand to board the ferry.

A private transfer is my preferred option for getting from Split to Hvar quickly, it is an incredible time-saver and the convenience is unmatched!

A ferry can be more cost-effective, but with a private speedboat transfer, it’s seamless! You don’t have to worry about any of the logistics, which is amazing if it’s your first visit to Split and you want a hassle-free and luxurious experience!

Private transfers are also great if you are carrying a lot of luggage or heading to Split airport, as the service also includes a private car transfer from the airport to the port with snacks and drinks to enjoy en route – I love this touch, we had fizz on arrival!

WHERE IS SPLIT PORT?

Split’s ferry port is located just opposite the main bus and train station, a ten-minute walk from the end of the Riva and Split’s Old Town. It’s very busy and well connected to the rest of Croatia and most of all gateway to the islands with multiple ferries departing every day, including Split to Hvar routes!

Tip! Get there 30 minutes beforehand even if you have your online ticket so you can find your ferry!

HOW TO GET TO SPLIT PORT?

From Split Airport

You can catch the bus from outside the arrivals, it takes 30-40 minutes to reach the station, which is opposite the ferry port. Tickets are purchased on the bus for around €20 and it leaves when full.

Another quicker option is to book a private transfer with Viator. For only €28, you can have a private driver waiting for you upon arrival to take the stress out of finding a taxi!

From Bus/Train Station

The bus and train station are in the same place, whether you’ve travelled internationally or within Croatia and the Port of Split is directly opposite.

HOW TO GET TO SPLIT CROATIA?

Travel to Hvar Town usually involves a stay in Split, I recommend stopping at least 3 days in Split to explore this stunning coastal city before you head off to the islands!

Flights

Flying is the best way to get to Split, it’s served extremely well by low-cost airlines all around Europe, especially during the summer months April until October.

Train

Split’s train station is located opposite the port of Split and although travelling by train is not common in Croatia you can arrive from other European destinations via a change in Zagreb.

Bus

Buses in Croatia work the same way as trains. International journeys require a change in Dubrovnik or Zargreb, and conveniently, the station is also opposite the port of Split!

WHEN TO VISIT HVAR

For the best experience, great weather and fewer crowds consider organising your Split to Hvar trip in the shoulder season; May -June and September-early October. July and August are very busy months on the island and the weather is hot for sunbathing and swimming!

Hvar is the best island in Dalmatia and as such, sees the most visitors, so I recommend securing your transport at least two weeks in advance during the peak summer months.

Hvar Island is filled with beauty, nature, history and glam, there’s lots to explore from the charming old towns, Fortress viewpoint, ancient squares to pretty beaches and beach clubs!

Hvar old town is picturesque, spend an hour or so wandering the cobbled streets, walking up and down the charming stone stairs, taking photos and finding cute boutique shops and coffee stops! St Stephen’s Square and the cathedral are the main spots and the area is filled with lovely terraces.

Hike up the stairs to the Fortress that sits majestically at the top of Hvar Town, from there you get the best panoramic views of the whole island archipelago, it’s the most breathtaking sight!
