WHAT TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK
Dubrovnik is known for its Mediterranean-Dalmatian cuisine, which is everyone’s summer favourite – think fresh seafood, olive oil, and grilled vegetables, with a dash of Italian influence!
Popular local dishes in Dubrovnik include black risotto, pasta with Istrian truffles, cheese from the island of Pag, plus tasty Dalmatian ham and traditional Peka lamb, while fresh fish is an Adriatic staple along with the side dish of swiss chard (similar to spinach).
If you’re a fan of grilled meats, then you’ll love traditional dishes like cevapi, which are small sausages made from beef and lamb (head to restaurant Taj Mahal). And of course, no meal in Dubrovnik is complete without a glass of lovely Croatian wine!
WHERE TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK OLD TOWN
Dubrovnik is bursting with incredible dining spots – from fancy waterfront Michelin-rated restaurants to charming Tavernas set within the historic old town. Here’s my top picks for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
WHERE TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK OLD TOWN FOR BREAKFAST!
If you have opted to self-cater, there are a few spots where you can enjoy a proper, delicious breakfast! Here’s where to eat breakfast in Dubrovnik old town:
STRADOON
Café Stradoon is easily one of my favourite places in Dubrovnik Old Town for breakfast, right in the centre of the main street Stradun, which is also excellent for people watching!
For the best experience, head there around 10am – even though the breakfast menu is served until 2pm the outdoor terrace is popular and it’s one of the only places in town where you can get your avocado toast and a fresh juice!

PUCIC PALACE
Pucic Palace is a Baroque aristocrat’s mansion converted into a luxury boutique with a charming Parisian-style café and terrace set within a prime location – and there’s often an artisan market to keep you occupied while you wait for your breakfast!
You can choose from around 6 options on the à la carte menu, including the continental, which is very tasty, especially the fluffy omelette, it also comes with a fresh breadbasket, orange juice and coffee – all good quality!
GRADSKA KAVAVA ARSENAL
Wondering where to eat in Dubrovnik old town for a standout breakfast or special occasion? Look no further than the much loved Gradska – an icon right on the harbour front and one of the attractions in Dubrovnik Old Town!
The stunning location and attentive service attract both locals and tourists alike – it’s one of the best places to eat in Dubrovnik, somewhere to stay for a while and enjoy your three-tiered breakfast overlooking the harbour! (Below is the second, smaller terrace on the square).
Don’t miss this spot, even if it’s just for a coffee!

WHERE TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK OLD TOWN FOR LUNCH
If you happen to be in Dubrovnik during lunchtime, you will find the restaurants and terraces along the passageways mostly empty as most visitors are sightseeing. But, there are a couple of spots that are just perfect at this time, here’s my top picks!
LUCIN KATUN
Lucin Kantun is one of those hidden gem restaurants in Dubrovnik old town that you’ll be glad you’ve found. It’s authentic and super friendly – and they serve the best lavender gin!
I’ve sat on the shaded terrace many times; it’s my go-to place for a light lunch or tapas across the afternoon, a break from the midday sun with delicious food and wine! If it’s still on the menu, try the spinach filo pastry or the black risotto!
M’ARDEN WINE BAR
M’arden started as a top wine bar, but it now also serves some of the best tapas in town with excellent presentation, it’s faultless and also still a hidden gem (for now). I’ve only eaten here once, but I will be returning to try more of their Croatian wines and tasty food pairings!
Aside from the food and wine, the views from the rooftop terrace over the old town are a real treat, and during my visit, there was also a guitarist playing in the background; it was such a special touch!
SUSHI AND OYSTER BAR BOTA
If you’re a fan of fresh sushi and oysters, Bar Bota is an excellent choice for enjoying lunch in Dubrovnik old town with a view! It’s perfectly located across from the city’s cathedral – another fantastic historic spot to linger!
Indulge in your favourite sushi while sitting on a cute terrace with tall tables and stools set, within a quiet corner, the stone wall interior is also worth checking out – there’s a lovely table right by the window!
Many of these restaurants are just steps from Dubrovnik’s most iconic sights – if you’re planning to explore between meals, don’t miss my guide to the best things to do in Dubrovnik Old Town.

WHERE TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK OLD TOWN FOR DINNER
Dubrovnik’s restaurants really come alive in the evening, it’s the busiest time, the atmosphere is electric with diners and clinking glasses! Here’s my evening favourites!
PROTO FISH RESTAURANT
Still considered to be one of the best seafood restaurants in Dubrovnik old town, Proto has been serving traditional Croatian cuisine since 1886! I particularly like the terrace on the cobbled lane, it’s beautiful and there’s also a rooftop terrace if you want more privacy!
On the menu, you can order lobster or a simple seafood pasta dish, and it is all well-presented; the excellent reviews speak for themselves – you definitely need to book in advance!

ABOVE 5
Above 5 is situated on the rooftop terrace of one of my favourite places to stay in Dubrovnik old town, boutique hotel Stari Grad, this intimate 5th-floor restaurant comes with lots of ambience and a short, but well-crafted menu.
Early evening is the best time to go, the food and views over the terracotta rooftop are just stunning, remember to reserve a table a few days ahead!
NAUTIKA
If you’re wondering where to eat in Dubrovnik for a fine dining experience or special occasion, then I highly recommend Nautika! It’s my number one restaurant in Dubrovnik for a spoil-yourself meal; the location and terrace are breathtaking!
Nautika is positioned in a romantic spot overlooking Fort Lovrijenac (a Game of Thrones location) and with two Michelin stars, you are guaranteed a phenomenal Mediterranean menu! Expect classy, crisp white table cloths and a piano!
New to Dubrovnik? I’ve pulled together a complete first-time visitors guide covering where to stay, how to get around and how to plan your days.

WHERE TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK WITH A VIEW
If you’re wondering where to eat in Dubrovnik with a view, you are in luck. Dubrovnik is incredibly scenic and there are a handful of great restaurants placed in some very strategic locations. Here’s my top choices!
RESTAURANT 360
Restaurant 360 is just as the name suggests, a rooftop restaurant offering amazing views over the old town harbour and beyond! You might have already heard about 360, it’s one of the top restaurants in Dubrovnik old town that is Michelin rated.
At the top, you can expect a great atmosphere, a personalised service and breathtaking views! I need to point out that the menu is eye-wateringly expensive – even for Dubrovnik’s standards, but you’re paying for the location, sommelier, butler and fancy pairings mostly, best for special occasions and couples!
PANORAMA RESTAURANT
Panorama sits at the top of Mount Srd, boasting the best view overlooking Dubrovnik’s old town walls and the Adriatic beyond. It is unmatched for lunch or dinner with an epic view!
To reach this viewpoint and restaurant in Dubrovnik, you have to take the cable car, but it’s all part of the fun and one of the best things to do in Dubrovnik. Just plan your visit around lunchtime or dinner! Sunset is especially popular, so be sure to make a reservation – you don’t want to miss this!

PLACES TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK (Beyond The Old Town)
LOKRUM ISLAND
If you’re visiting Lokrum Island, Eden Restaurant is worth stopping by for a peaceful lunch on the terrace surrounded by gardens and a few roaming peacocks, no less!
Eden offers a more casual menu of fresh pizza (actually really excellent), salads, Dalmatian ham, wine and coffee to while away the afternoon. It feels like you’ve stumbled upon an oasis!
CAVTAT BAY
You are really spoilt for choice if you are planning a day trip to beautiful Cavtat along the coastline, there are some lovely restaurants right on the postcard-perfect waterfront!
Upscale La Boheme is one of my go-to spots; it has a lovely terrace and view, and if it’s still available, I recommend the tuna and avocado salad with quinoa and fresh lemon juice, all delicious!

Boheme Restaurant Cavtat
LAPAD BAY
Lapad Bay is the place to go for relaxation away from the bustle of the old town, there’s many beaches and resort-style hotels in the area; Coral Beach Club is one of my favourite spots!
At this stunning beach location, you can lunch by the water and enjoy dishes like tasty seafood pasta with a glass of white and afterwards chill out on the sunbeds or swim in the shallow water bay – there’s also an extensive cocktail list and nice background music – it’s an easy place to spend the afternoon!

WINE BARS & EXPERIENCES IN DUBROVNIK
One of the things you will always find in the heritage towns of Croatia is an inviting wine bar! If you fancy a glass of local wine there are 2-3 lovely wine bars to seek out in Dubrovnik’s Old Town or maybe a cool rooftop is more your thing? Here’s my top spots in Dubrovnik for a drink or two!
BAKUS WINE BAR
Bakus is a wonderful wine bar with excellent service and a lovely selection of wines! Its central location within the old town is the perfect spot to sit and chill with a glass of wine, there’s a few tall chairs and tables along the cobbled lane, and the inside has been carved out of a cave!
M’ARDEN WINE BAR
M’arden Wine Bar is one of the best new wine bars in Dubrovnik Old Town and my favourite recent discovery! I love the ambience and romance of the terrace, it is very beautiful – a top experience, expect a sommelier to hand, well-presented Dalmatian tapas pairings and sharing boards. I 100% recommend!
FRATELLOS PROSECCO BAR
A hidden gem, Fratellos Prosecco Bar is the coolest bar in Dubrovnik, boasting three levels and sweeping sea views to gaze at while you sip cocktails and wine and listen to Jazz! I stumbled on this gem just 10 minutes outside of Pile Gate, it’s perfect for sunset drinks. Do not miss it!

TIPS FOR DINING IN DUBROVNIK!
Book Ahead In Summer
Dubrovnik’s restaurants fill up fast in summer – especially the waterfront spots and top places to eat in Dubrovnik Old Town. If there’s a place you’ve been thinking about, make a reservation a few days in advance.
Eat Like The Locals
Try the seafood. Dubrovnik is located on the Adriatic coast, which means that the seafood is fresh and plentiful. Also, don’t be afraid to skip the tourist menus and try Dalmatian classics like pasticada (slow-cooked beef stew).
Time Your Meals
Locals often dine later in the evening, so if you prefer a quieter atmosphere, aim for an earlier sitting around 6:30–7:00 pm, which is actually my preferred time. You’ll see the views better if you’re dining waterside and can relax with a glass of wine around sunset!
Bring Cash (Just Incase)
Most restaurants take cards, but smaller, family-run taverns (konobas) sometimes prefer cash.
