Trogir Old Town square with historic clock tower and cafés, a central area for Trogir accommodation

BEST AREAS TO STAY IN TROGIR – OVERVIEW

The historic town of Trogir sits on a little island, connected to the mainland and to Ciovo Island opposite by several bridges, and it’s almost entirely pedestrianised, which makes it all very walkable and charming!

When planning where to stay in Trogir, I recommend focusing on the Old Town and Riviera, or on Ciovo Island just over the bridge, the most central and picturesque areas, especially for first-time visitors!

And as Trogir is smaller, you can easily walk between the Riviera or opposite on Ciovo Island’s waterfront to the heart of town in a few minutes; these spots are particularly convenient and atmospheric!

Trogir Old Town is the picture-perfect historic city centre, just full of old-world charm, cobbled streets, and architectural gems! It’s the main attraction and best place to stay in Trogir for first-time visitors and those who love being centrally located!

The old town is what visitors come to see, so while the mornings are tranquil by lunchtime, the square and cathedral area especially are bustling with day trippers from Split. But there’s atmosphere in spades, especially in the evenings with romantic lantern-lit lanes and cosy restaurant terraces!

Of course, the old town is also pedestrianised, which is ideal, and as the historic area is small, there’s only a few quality boutiques to choose between, and gorgeous FRANKA is one of them, I love the style, ambience and convenience – it’s the heart and soul of Trogir!

Is Trogir a good base for exploring the Dalmatian coast?

Yes absolutely! Trogir is a beautiful place to stay, and it’s also one of the most convenient bases for exploring the Dalmatian coast! Trogir is just 30 minutes from Split, making it easy to combine both destinations – especially if you follow my 3 days in Split itinerary for a perfectly planned trip.

From Trogir, you can wander the charming old town cobbles, enjoy atmospheric evenings, then head out on incredible day trips across the Adriatic, including a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon, one of the most popular experiences!

And if you’re looking to explore beyond the coast, Krka National Park is another must-visit, known for its waterfalls, scenic walking trails and beautiful natural landscapes.

TIPS FOR CHOOSING WHERE TO STAY IN TROGIR

Stay Around Trogir Old Town If It’s Your First Visit

The old town and the Riviera are the best places to stay in Trogir Croatia if it’s your first visit to the area, and Hotel Brown Beach House is a top hotel choice, perfectly situated for sea views and a short walk to the old town and harbour.

Parking Is Limited Inside The Old Town

Croatia’s smaller heritage towns are notoriously difficult to park in, and Trogir is situated on an Island where the Old Town is fully pedestrianised, so you won’t be able to park in front of your hotel. If you have a car, some hotels along the Riviera and Ciovo Island offer on-site parking; alternatively, there are some parking lots outside the old town – you’ll have to walk in with your luggage.

Trogir Is Compact And Walkable

Trogir is compact and very walkable, with many pedestrianised areas, including the entire Old Town, making it a hassle-free, easy to get around and charming area to stay, just like Dubrovnik Old Town, Korcula Town and Hvar Town in the Dalmatian Region!

How Many Days To Spend In Trogir

Many visitors arrive as day-trippers from Split to Trogir, but really 2-4 nights in Trogir is ideal. Staying here allows you to relax and enjoy the waterfront, heritage town and beaches, while still leaving room for exploration. Trogir also makes a great alternative base for visiting Split Old Town!

Tip! If you’re also visiting nearby Split, don’t miss my 3 days in Split itinerary – perfect for planning your wider Dalmatian coast trip.

Still planning your trip to Trogir?

If you’re planning a stay in this charming Dalmatian coastal town, there are plenty of beautiful experiences to add to your itinerary. From wandering the medieval lanes of Trogir Old Town to island hopping across the Adriatic, Trogir is the perfect base for exploring the Dalmatian coast.

If you’re deciding where to base yourself along the coast, Trogir is a wonderful alternative to staying in Split -offering beautiful stone streets, waterfront restaurants and easy access to nearby islands.
