WHERE TO STAY IN TROGIR – OVERVIEW

The historic town of Trogir sits on a little island known for its heritage, charm and boutique hotels and just outside, there is a lovely waterfront area split between Trogir’s Riviera and Ciovo Island, which is connected by a short bridge and offers stunning sea view hotels – for most visitors, this is the best place to stay in Trogir!

Ciovo Island is much larger and dotted around the island are small villages, beach hotels and private accommodations with pools and beachfront access, 20-minutes from the old town, best for longer stays or those travelling with a car.

When choosing where to stay in Trogir, I recommend focusing on the Old Town and the waterfront, including Ciovo Island, the most central, atmospheric and picturesque areas, especially for first-time visitors!

Is Trogir a good base for exploring the Dalmatian coast?

Yes absolutely! Trogir is a beautiful place to stay, and it’s also one of the most convenient bases for exploring the Dalmatian coast and only 30 minutes from Split!

From Trogir, you can wander the charming old town cobbles, enjoy atmospheric evenings, then head out on incredible day trips across the Adriatic, including a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon, one of the most popular experiences!

TIPS FOR CHOOSING WHERE TO STAY IN TROGIR

Stay Close To Trogir Old Town If It’s Your First Visit

The old town and the Riviera are the best places to stay in Trogir Croatia if it’s your first visit to the area, and Hotel Brown Beach House is a top hotel choice, perfectly situated for sea views and a short walk to the old town and harbour.

Best Months To Visit Trogir Croatia

The main time to visit Trogir is between May and September, but for the best experience, great weather and fewer crowds, I recommend May-June or September. Personally, I prefer the beginning of summer, when the evenings are lighter, the beaches and restaurants are just opening up, and you can visit the Croatian Islands!

Parking Is Limited Inside The Old Town

Croatia’s smaller heritage towns are notoriously difficult to park in, and Trogir is situated on an Island where the Old Town is fully pedestrianised, so you won’t be able to park here, but there are parking lots outside the old town, just a 10-minute walk away, also a few of the hotels in Ciovo Island opposite offer parking!

Trogir Is Compact And Walkable

Trogir is compact and very walkable, with many pedestrianised areas, including the entire Old Town, making it a hassle-free, easy to get around and charming area to stay, just like Dubrovnik Old Town, Korcula Town and Hvar Town in the Dalmatian Region!

How Many Days To Spend In Trogir

Many visitors arrive as day-trippers from Split to Trogir, but really, 3-4 nights in Trogir is ideal. Staying longer allows you to relax and enjoy the waterfront, heritage town and beaches, while still leaving time to explore nearby gems. Trogir also makes a great alternative base for visiting Split Old Town!

Tip! If you’re also visiting nearby Split, don’t miss my 3 days in Split itinerary – perfect for planning your wider Dalmatian coast trip.
