Top 7 Restaurants In Hvar Town: A Complete Guide To Incredible Dining in Beautiful Surrounds
GARIFUL
Best sea view restaurants in Hvar Town.
Let’s begin at Gariful, a top-class restaurant with a beautiful view over the Riviera, best known for serving quality seafood on one of the fanciest terraces in Hvar. It has ALL the frills including the odd celeb spot (there’s a long list on their website including Prince Harry if you’re interested), but it’s not all showy. Garifil is also the place to go for oysters, scallops, pasta gnocchi sardi (a must-try) and grilled calamari – almost all the fish dishes you can think of!
I highly recommend booking ahead at this exclusive fish restaurant, especially if you were hoping to snatch a table on the outdoor terrace. Lunch or sunset are perfect times to wine and dine at Gariful!

GIAXA
Best restaurants in Hvar Old Town.
Another sort-after restaurant in Hvar Town, Giaxa is situated across a cobbled lane and housed within a fifteenth-century Gothic Palace, and honestly the setting is as stunning as the food! In fact I would go as far as to say it’s one of the best old town dining experiences I’ve had in Croatia full stop.
Go for the irresistible outdoor terrace with atmospheric dim lighting. It’s perfect for evening dining and pick from the delectable menu of well-presented food (on the pricey side if I’m truly honest), but worth it. Signature dishes include rockfish with pan-fried mango, cherry tomatoes, thyme, and vegetable cream, as well as mouth-watering desserts. Few places can match the quality of Giaxa.

Hvar Town is also one of my favourite resorts to stay on Hvar Island, wondering where else makes the list? Don’t miss my post on Where to stay on Hvar Island, Best Areas, Apartments & Boutiques!
DALMANTINO
Popular restaurants in Hvar Town.
Dalmantino is the first restaurant I visited in Hvar Town, recommended to me by an Airbnb host 8 years ago and it’s still one of my favourite restaurants in Hvar Town today. It is a well-established restaurant that serves tasty and well-presented local dishes.
I always order one of the gnocchi dishes or the tuna steak with freshly grilled veggies and broad bean puree with a local glass of white wine. You can happily turn up for lunch without reservations (the old town is generally quiet in the daytime), which is my preference as this particular location can be a busy thoroughfare in the evening.

Heritage Hotel Park Hvar restaurant terrace
RESTAURANT PARK HVAR
Romantic restaurant in Hvar Town.
Restaurant Park Hvar is one of the best restaurants in Hvar Town, it belongs to the hotel of the same name, but don’t let a hotel restaurant put you off! Park Hvar has the most beautiful flower-filled terrace overlooking the harbour, it’s very charming and photogenic with plenty of ambience and is popular with weddings – so you know this place is also great for romantic dining!
I recommend booking a table just before sunset, you’ll want to catch the nice glow over the harbour and there’s an amazing jazz bar right below – it also belongs to the fabulous Heritage Park Hvar Hotel.

You’ll visit two vineyards, wine cellars and see some charming villages along the way! BLACK PEPPER
Creative restaurant in Hvar old Town.
Situated along a pretty lane in the old town, Black Pepper is a creative friends-owned and extremely popular restaurant in Hvar Town. It’s instantly recognisable from the beautiful setting of chequered tablecloths, traditional green window shutters and glowing lamps.
It’s another favourite restaurant of mine set in the old town of Hvar, I adore the stunning views, quirky stone steps location, charm and friendly service just as much as the Mediterranean menu! Reserve your spot in advance and ask the on-hand sommelier to pick out a fabulous wine to go along with your meal.

A highly rated family-run restaurant for over 70 years that also has a Michelin star to its name and deservedly so. Mediterraneo Wine and Dine is a gorgeous intimate restaurant in Hvar Town with a charming courtyard to eat delicately plated foods and drink fine wine.

Restaurant in Hvar Town Paradise Gardens
PARADISE GARDEN HVAR
New hidden gem restaurant in Hvar Town.
Paradise Garden Hvar is one of the newer restaurants in Hvar Town. If I was staying on Hvar Island, I’d definitely be checking out – if not for the ‘paradise garden’ alone, it looks fabulous. Split across two sitting areas including an open-air rooftop terrace with views, Paradise Garden Hvar is quickly becoming one of the top restaurants in Hvar Town, if you know where to find it!
Serving both Mediterranean and Croatian, the recommendations include crab and guacamole starter or burrata and tuna steak – the cocktails look fancy as well!

HVAR RESTAURANT TIPS
Are Hvar restaurants open throughout the year?
Hvar Island is very much a summer destination, the season starts in May and ends in early October (late October if you’re lucky). On either side of these months, many restaurants will close their doors for the winter. Everywhere will be super quiet at this time and sadly lacking in the atmosphere that makes everything special!
What to eat in Hvar Town?
What to eat in Hvar Town may be a simple question, but I recommend sharing two starters, I always go with something light like Dalmatian ham or scallops and I’ll only add bread if it’s homemade. Fish and seafood mains are a must – ask your waiter for recommendations and check how it’s presented! Risotto, pasta and truffles are also heavily featured on the menus either starter or main, it makes a nice alternative.
Do you need to book a table in advance?
Yes! If you plan on eating and drinking at peak times during summer, then I recommend reserving in advance and being specific with your seating preferences. All the places listed in this guide are the best restaurants in Hvar Town and their outdoor terraces fill up fast – especially ones with sea views and let’s face it – that’s why we all wanted to eat there, it is part of the overall experience!
Is there a best time to eat in Hvar Town?
Lunch on Hvar Island is best enjoyed with a table and a gorgeous sea view and why wouldn’t you when there’s plenty to choose from and fresh seafood caught daily. If you’re wondering where to eat in Hvar Town for lunch head over to Gariful or Restaurant Park Hvar anywhere between 1-3pm for quality food and lovely sea views.
Dinner should be experienced at least once in the charming old town of Hvar, the most popular times are between 8-10pm. At this time the narrow lanes will be atmospheric with twinkly lights, chatter and clinking glasses – try Gaixa one of the best restaurants in Hvar old town and my personal favourite.
IN SUMMARY
If you’re visiting Hvar Island do not miss the the opportunity to dine in one of these top restaurants in Hvar Town. Eating around Hvar is full of different experiences, from Mediterranean to family-ran Michelin restaurants and rooftop terraces with sea views, the only hard part is picking your favourite!
