5 Star Luxury At Case Mae, Portugal

Lagos is the authentic white washed seaside town of the Algarve region in Portugal, known for its dramatic beaches and cliff sidewalks. This scenic spot had been on the top of my Portugal must-see list for a while and I couldn’t hope to find a better base other than at Casa Mae, a newly renovated 19th Century Estate with a nice pool over-looking the entire town, just minutes from the best beaches!

Here’s my experience from a lovely solo 4 night stay at Casa Mae in Lagos.

Book: Casa Mae Boutique Hotel

Casa Mae Boutique Hotel Review

Like most of my trips this short trip to Lagos was a last minute affair in early May, lucky for me this beautiful hotel had a few standard double rooms available and I quickly made a reservation!

Case Mae is a boutique and has just 34 rooms in total with 6 being in the original part of the house, 4 luxury cabanas with private patios (next time) and the remainder housed in the newer ‘Jogo Da Bolo’ building. Each and every room is decorated for relaxation and luxury in mind – exactly the kind of base I was looking for after a day of exploring!

BEAUTIFUL ROOMS AND CABANAS

I arrived in the late afternoon and checked into my room at the hottest part of the day! It didn’t take long to unpack and find the hammock on the balcony where I ended up spending a bit of time each day as well as around the gorgeous pool with panoramic views. The hotel’s restaurant Orta is one of the best in town for organic healthy eats so it was easy to have a few meals here, especially on the first travel day – this is exactly what I needed!

Every part of the hotel has relaxation in mind, all the walls are white, beachy and filled with French chic luxury furniture, it’s all very pleasing to the eye and makes you feel instantly at home – as well as the super friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble.

SERVICE AND FACILITIES

One of the best things about this hotel was that I felt like I could just stay there ALL day! Every morning I lingered over a healthy delicious breakfast on the terrace surrounded by terracotta plants, palm trees and deck chairs, what a dream start to the day!

On an evening and at lunch visitors often swung by to check out the daily changing menu, with most of the ingredients plucked straight from Case Mae’s very own organic farm. You can also book a spa treatment to round off your day, unfortunately I didn’t have time for a treatment as I was hopping around the beaches and cobbled paths for the majority of the day.

Casa Mae is a beautiful hotel, light and airy with historic and French chic details (a nod to the French owner), which more than suited my needs for this trip! In particular; the general ambience and location overlooking the old town of Lagos – just a short walk via cobbled stoned paths to the beach.

Location – Casa Mae is set within the quiet cobbled old town of Lagos, with lots of cafés and pretty crumbly buildings nearby. In just ten-minute’s you can walk across to the Algarve’s best and most instagrammed beaches and rock formations around Praia da Marinha. Hire cars are readily available to explore other nearby towns, such as Sagres and a few smaller beach coves.

This hotel and location exceeded my expectations and made my first visit to Lagos all the more special. I would not hesitate to recommend Casa Mae, it had everything I look for in a short trip; style, friendliness, healthy food options, pool with a view and spot on location! On the second visit I would consider hiring a car to explore the surrounding beach coves and inland countryside further. I hope you found this review useful, would you stay in Lagos?
