If you visit Hvar by ferry, you will have time to explore Hvar Town and its beaches and historic sights and squeeze in one of the Pakleni Islands, if you plan well (the water taxi’s leave Hvar Town’s harbour every hour and the duration is approximately 20 minutes).

How to get to Hvar by Ferry Independently:

Taking a ferry is the most budget-friendly way to do a day trip from Split to Hvar. Both Jadrolinija and Krilo run high-speed catamarans between Split and Hvar Town, taking around 1 to 1.5 hours each way. Just book in advance during the summer months, as spots can fill up quickly.

Split Hvar ferry schedules run frequently in the summer months, there’s several per day starting from 8.30am until 7.30pm, be sure to select the ferry from Split to Hvar Town (I recommend booking the first and last ferry for a full-day!!)

All ferries leave from the ferry port of Split, a 10-minute walk from the old town – you can’t miss it, but you do need a pre-booked ticket and to arrive 30 minutes before your departure time.

What To Do On A Day Trip From Split To Hvar

On a day trip to Hvar, I recommend concentrating your visit around Hvar Town, the historic sights and the beaches, everything is easily reachable on foot and you’ll have a more relaxing time! You can even take a taxi boat right from the harbour to visit one of the Pakleni islands, such as Palmizana or Mlini – the taxi’s depart hourly and take only 20 minutes. Here’s what to do in Hvar:

HVAR TOWN

Hvar Harbour

Hvar’s super glam harbour is where you’ll arrive in style; yachts, terraces, and rows of palm trees line the prom, making it a vibrant spot to begin your Hvar day trip and get your bearings!

Hvar Old Town

Hvar old town is picturesque, spend an hour or so wandering the cobbled streets and the charming stone stairs, taking photos and finding cute boutique shops and coffee stops! St Stephen’s Square and the Cathedral are the main points of interest.

Hvar Town Fortress

Hike up to the Fortress, which overlooks the entire town with the best panoramic views of the whole Pakleni island archipelago. It’s the most breathtaking sight and one of the best things to do in Hvar Town!

Stroll The Shoreline

Take a couple of hours to stroll along the shoreline from St Stephen’s square to Falko beach bar at the end, there’s many points of interest; small beach coves, lush scenery and stylish beach clubs like Hula Hula.

Beach Club Hvar

Beach Club Hvar is just 10-minutes along the coastal path from Hvar town it’s the most luxury club in Hvar, it’s beautiful and scenic, coastal blues and whites, a great spot for lounging and sipping cocktails!

THE REST OF HVAR ISLAND

Stari Grad

Stari Grad is the oldest town on Hvar Island, it’s lovely and a tranquil alternative to Hvar Town and beaches. Its attractive cultural centre is filled with traditional stone buildings and there’s a harbour to stroll. You can get to Stari Grad in around 30 minutes via bus or taxi; the journey is scenic too!

Palmizana Island

Palmizana Island is my favourite, it is an upscale island with the main area situated within a picturesque bay with sunbed facilities and a few fabulous waterfront restaurants such as Zori.

Mlini Island

Milini Island is also lovely to visit, you arrive right in front of the best restaurant and bar – Malmato, there’s also a secluded beach area with organised loungers at the second bay to relax.

Where To Eat During You Hvar Day Trip From Split

Plan your lunch stop on your day trip to Hvar, it will save you a little time if you’re already armed with a few great options before you arrive to the island! Here’s my favourite lunch spots:

Restaurant Park Hvar

Restaurant Park Hvar belongs to a lovely heritage hotel that sits at the end of the harbour overlooking palm trees and boats! It has a romantic terrace decorated with bright bougainvillaea and boasts a Mediterranean menu; it’s my favourite spot!

Val Marina Restaurant

Val Marina Restaurant is situated along the promenade that leads from the old town square of St Stephen’s all the way to Falko Beach with old town and harbour views. The vibe is coastal blue and it specialises in seafood and Mediterranean – the terrace is more private.

Beach Club Hvar

Beach Club Hvar is the most stylish and sophisticated beach club and restaurant spot to spend your lunch! It’s located about halfway around the coastal promenade, you can’t miss the blue and white sumptuous furnishings, it’s a beautiful place right on the waterfront!

Zori – Palmizana

If you end up on Palmizana Island (20 minutes from Hvar Town Harbour by water taxi) be sure to stop at Zori for lunch with unbeatable sea views! Zori is located within a prime beach cove with uninterrupted views, I highly recommend the delicious tuna and local white wine from Hvar!

Absolutely – a Hvar day trip from Split is 100% worth it, especially if you’re short on time but still want a taste of Croatia’s island life!! Hvar blends history, style, and natural beauty like few other destinations do!

For the best experience, great weather and fewer crowds consider organising your Split to Hvar trip in the shoulder season; May-June and September-early October. April is the quietest pre-season month, July and August are very busy months on the island and the weather is hot for sunbathing and swimming!

Leave Early In The Day

To truly enjoy your day trip from Split to Hvar, aim to catch an early morning ferry or speedboat. This gives you plenty of time to explore, enjoy lunch, and relax on a beach before returning. Most ferries start around 7–8am in peak season, while private tours often depart around 9am.
