Dubrovnik Game of Thrones Tour: Is It Worth It? (2026 Guide)

Last updated on February 4th, 2026 at 06:19 pm

Are you a fan of Game of Thrones? A Dubrovnik Game of Thrones tour is the ultimate way to step into King’s Landing – and I’m sharing the filming locations and tours you won’t want to miss!

Dubrovnik isn’t just another beautiful walled city – it’s packed with scenes and backdrops from one of the most watched and talked-about fantasy dramas! All those epic battles and Cersei’s infamous “Walk of Shame”… yep, they were all filmed right here!

While exploring Dubrovnik Old Town, you will likely recognise a few spots on your own, especially the Jesuit Stairs, but for a bit of fun, an official guided tour – still popular in 2026 will spill the juicy behind-the-scenes stories, insider trivia, and even props for those must-have photos!

In the name of research, I went on my first filming locations tour ever, which happens to be this Dubrovnik Game of Thrones tour and below I’ll be sharing my honest review, are Dubrovnik Game of Thrones tours worth it? Lets find out!

What are Game of Thrones Tours in Dubrovnik?

Dubrovnik Old Town is one of the main locations featured in Game of Thrones, and the city fully embraced the global phenomenon that followed, with insightful GOT walking tours created especially for fans of the show and for those who were blown away by this ancient city’s landscape!

Typically, an official local guide will walk you through the top filming locations in the old town, sharing entertaining stories and using photo props and replicas to bring them to life in just 2-3 hours! Below, I’ll run you through the key Dubrovnik Game of Thrones locations to jog your memory!

Key Dubrovnik Game of Thrones locations You’ll See!

If you’re wondering where exactly in Dubrovnik the world of Westeros came to life, here are some of the most iconic filming locations!

Pile Gate & Harbour (Blackwater Bay)

Pile Gate is a great place to begin, it is the location for many of Season 2 scenes, including the high drama that unfolded in episode 6, where a riot breaks out in King’s Landing!

This intense scene is situated in one of the most prominent places in Dubrovnik’s old town, between the outer wall and the drawbridge. You will likely walk up and down these steps a few times as it’s the gateway to Fort Lovrijenac and Pile harbour, which is also the exact spot for King’s Landing’s harbour scenes!

If you’ve seen a boat sailing, it was probably filmed right here at Pile Harbour AKA Blackwater Bay, where Myrcella sets sail for Dorne, only nowadays it’s a well-known kayaking spot in Dubrovnik!

Lovrijenac Fortress overlooking the Adriatic, one of the most iconic Dubrovnik Game of Thrones locations used as the Red Keep in King’s Landing

Fort Lovrijenac – (The Red Keep)

Some of the best scenes at The Red Keep were actually filmed at Fort Lovrijenac, just outside of the city walls, a worthwhile steep hike and one of my favourite sightseeing areas in Dubrovnik!

Fort Lovrijenac is a magnificent landmark and viewpoint in its own right; it offers the best panorama over Dubrovnik’s walls (in my opinion) and it was also used for several scenes throughout the series as the ‘Red Keep’.

King Joffrey’s name day in Season 2 and the opening scene is the one that really stands out, it was all filmed at the Fort – and your guide has the stills to prove it!

Jesuit Stairs (Walk of Shame)

Who can forget the walk of shame – the one where Cersei is forced to walk through the streets of King’s Landing and down the stairs naked, while the bell-ringer follows her, chanting “shame”. It was awful and legendary, and it is the scene that everyone remembers in our little tour group!

This iconic scene in the finale of Season 5 was filmed in the heart of the old town on the Jesuit Staircase. If you book a Dubrovnik Game of Thrones Tour, you will come here and walk to the top, where there’s a stunning square and the St Jesuit Church – one of the best attractions in Dubrovnik Old Town!

Rector’s Palace (Spice King’s mansion)

Do you remember Qarth? Well this Game of Thrones city was actually filmed in multiple locations within Dubrovnik Old Town, it takes an expert to point them out and tell you the behind-the-scenes gossip! For instance, a scene that lasts just a few minutes could take days of filming (many of the guides were extras on the show).

Rector’s Palace played a part in one of Daenerys scenes with the Thirteen rulers of Qarth and as for the mysterious House of Undying? That’s located at the Minčeta Tower next to Ploce Gate at the other side of Dubrovnik (see my posing in front of it below). Incidentally, the Old Town and Ploce are the two best areas to stay in Dubrovnik if you are looking to be situated close to the action!

City Walls (King’s Landing walls)

Instantly recognisable as the King’s Landing walls – Dubrovnik’s magnificent city walls were a regular filming location in Game of Thrones and Bokar Fortress, especially with its cinematic-like backdrop (see above right)!

Your guide will point out the exact spots where many of the characters walked or gazed out towards the Adriatic deep in thought – the photo ops here are endless!

Group Dubrovnik Game of Thrones Tours Vs Private

Group Tours

A small group tour is ideal for solo travellers or those who don’t mind sharing! Prices are from as little as €24 per person, and they are a great way to meet fellow Thrones fans who’ll add a bit more fun and enthusiasm! Book a group tour

Private Tours

For families and small groups of three or more, a private tour will be worthwhile! Your guide is all yours, you can linger at your favourite filming sites, pose and take as many photos as you want, and you’ll get all the juicy behind-the-scenes gossip. Book a private tour

Are Game of Thrones Dubrovnik Tours Worth It?

Yes, absolutely! While usually I like to walk around historic places and discover things by myself, I couldn’t imagine finding those exact filming locations of the Game of Thrones tour alone – especially not in 2 hours! If this is your aim, a tour is well worth it!

A guided tour saves you a lot of time and effort and reminds you of the wonderful backdrops and scenes played out in this epic series – and it was fun!

You can find some of the main locations like Jesuit Stairs yourself, but I definitely think it’s easier with a guide who shows you around and explains the scenes with a few anecdotes!

Practical Tips for a Dubrovnik Game of Thrones Tour

Book in Advance

Game of Thrones tours are super popular, especially in summer. Booking ahead guarantees your spot and often gets you better time slots (like early morning before the crowds). I booked with Get Your Guide for flexibility!

Wear Comfortable Shoes

The Old Town is full of steep stone steps and uneven cobbles – comfortable shoes are a must if you don’t want to end up slipping in King’s Landing.

Go Early or Late

The midday heat can be intense, and the streets get busy with cruise ship crowds. Early morning or late afternoon tours are cooler and far more atmospheric.

Bring Water & Sun Protection

Dubrovnik Game of Thrones tours are outside, with little shade. Bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat to stay comfortable while you explore.

Know Your Scenes

It helps if you refresh your memory of the episodes filmed in Dubrovnik before your tour. Guides will point them out, but it’s extra fun if you recognize the locations instantly!

Extend Your Day

Many Game of Thrones tours start early in the morning, afterwards, I highly recommend grabbing lunch in the old town and then taking a half-day boat trip to maximise your day – check out my detailed guide to the best boat tours from Dubrovnik!
