Interestingly, Trogir’s old town is located on an island connected by a bridge to the mainland of Croatia and offers a wonderful waterfront, Italian-style squares and the opportunity to visit beaches on Ciovo island or a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon!

It’s close to Split Airport and the city of Split and offers a delightful day trip or relaxed weekend stay – whether you have a few hours or days, Trogir is not to be missed!

15 INCREDIBLE THINGS TO DO IN TROGIR OLD TOWN

1. Wander The Narrow Medieval Streets

The very first thing on the list is to get your bearings in historic Trogir by wandering the charming medieval lanes on your own, where every turn feels like a secret passage! You’ll soon discover hidden gems, from beautiful buildings to courtyards, boutique shops, cafes and numerous artisan stalls!

One of my favourite finds was FRANKA, it has the best Mediterranean restaurant and the loveliest rooms with tasteful furnishings, this is where we stopped for two nights and I recommend it for a charming stay in Trogir Old Town!

2. Climb The Bell Tower of St Lawrence Cathedral

St Lawrence Cathedral is in the centre of Trogir and you will come across it easily as it’s one of the most prominent sights in Trogir old town. You can climb the Bell Tower for fantastic views of the Piazza below and over the orange rooftops and harbour! It is well worth it and also popping in the Cathedral on the way up, which is part of your small entry fee!

3. Stop For Coffee On The Piazza

Trogir’s Piazza is the central social hub of the town, it’s vibrant day and night and has a great view of the cathedral and clock tower within the square. Stopping here for coffee is the best way to experience it, my favourite spot is Corte Bar, they also do an excellent almond croissant for a mid-morning snack or a peaceful early breakfast, it really feels like Italy – and it’s perfect for people watching!

4. Admire The Clock Tower

Opposite the Cathedral and sharing the same main square in Trogir old town is the clock tower, a fine heritage piece from the 15th century. It has a blue dial and bright orange rooftop, you do get a great view from the Bell Tower, but you can also admire it at ground level – while enjoying a coffee!

5. Tour The Cipiko Palace

Cipiko Palace is a 15th-century mansion that occupies the western side of the Piazza, it is formerly the home of noble families who have left their mark on the square! Although it is not open to the public the Gothic facade, art and windows are still worth checking out for a glimpse into Trogir’s aristocratic past!

6. Shop Artisan Boutiques & Galleries

Amongst the narrow alleyways and squares, you’ll find boutique shops and artisan stalls filled with all sorts of handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, and Croatian art souvenirs! You can pick up original pieces or a keepsake, which helps to support the local community. I’ve previously bought summer scented items and bracelets that have stood the test of time!

7. Visit The City Museum Of Trogir

You might be thinking that Trogir old town is already like a living museum, but if you are a history buff wanting to delve into more facts about the town of Trogir, you can visit the museum, which is housed in an historic palace to look at exhibits and artefacts dating back to the 3rd century!

8. Peek Into The Historic Monastery

A visit to a historic town in Croatia isn’t complete without taking a look at its monastery and the monastery in Trogir old town is a thousand years old! Inside you will discover a collection of things including a church, courtyard and museum, not forgetting Kairos – a symbol for good luck in Trogir!

9. Choose Your Gelato Flavour at Bar Bella

A stroll at midday or late evening in Trogir old town isn’t the same without a gelato and I’ve found the perfect place to get one – Bar Bella! Trogir’s best proper homemade gelato bar with delicious flavours to choose from, including fresh lemon and everyone’s favourite pistachio, fig and ricotta, don’t miss it if you fancy a gelato!

10. Stroll Along The Waterfront

Trogir’s waterfront is lined with palm trees and buzzing cafes, it stretches the length of the old town and there’s some cool entry points via huge ancient doors joining the two together! It’s one of the most attractive Rivieras in Croatia and my favourite spot for walking and sunset drinks at Dionis – with wonderful views of palm trees, blue sea and yachts!

Boat tours leave from the waterfront, which is convenient for exploring the nearby smaller, picturesque islands and the dreamy Blue Lagoon and Blue Cave – a must-do in this area!!

11. Visit Kamerlengo Fortress For Panoramic Views

Kamerlengo Castle sits at the top end of Trogir’s waterfront and offers sweeping views over the water, Riva and mountains beyond. Although the castle is now an empty ruin with not much to see (apart from a few concerts throughout the summer), the views and observatory level more than make up for it – especially if you visit at sunset!

12. Dine Alfresco At FRANKA Restaurant

FRANKA is the best restaurant in Trogir old town in my opinion and a must-visit for lunch or dinner (dinner on the terrace is very popular, so book ahead). It’s situated down an attractive cobbled lane within a peaceful area away from the main thoroughfare.

It’s the perfect place to try local seafood or a glass of Croatian wine; I ordered the fresh tuna steak and it was hands down the tastiest meal of my Croatian trip!

13. Have Sunset Cocktails At Dionis

Enjoy a drink or two on an upscale Mediterranean terrace set within a prime position along the waterfront. Dionis is a great option for a sunset Aperol – there are lots of sofas and egg chairs to lounge, I’ve done this many times and stayed for a long while without being rushed – a laid-back service is a bonus on some occasions!

14. Take A Scenic Boat Trip To The Blue Lagoon

Visit the Blue Lagoon by boat right from the waterfront in Trogir, its the perfect day out – you’ll cruise past Trogir old town for a different view of the city walls to the smaller picturesque islands with pebble beaches and coves and swim the waters of the dreamy Blue Lagoon!

The Blue Lagoon is one of my favourite experiences in Croatia and it’s closer to Trogir than Split, so you can even visit in half a day and still have a wonderful few hours on the water!

15. Swim & Sunbathe At Laganini Beach Club

Laganini Beach Club is the best place to go to for boho luxury lounging by the sea, I’ve visited a few times in the morning (around 10am) when it’s the most chill and scenic! You can book a cabana in advance or just turn up for drinks and a casual swim, the location is lovely and the decor is equally as attractive!

Tip! You’ll need to grab a taxi as the location is Duboka Uvala on the opposite side of Ciovo Island – just a 10 minute drive!
