Best Places For Solo Female Travel In Europe

Last updated on February 24th, 2026 at 12:08 pm

Travelling solo in Europe is really one of the most rewarding ways to see and discover beautiful places and hidden gems on your own terms. Whether you’re dreaming of island escapes or heritage towns and lakes, there is a destination that’s going to fit your heart’s desires!

When I reflect on my twenty years of travel, what made the best destinations for solo female travel for me really came down to where I’d had the best experiences, felt safest, were stress-free, easy to get around, didn’t feel lonely and offered something special!

And a lot of the same themes came up, these were the smaller, more charming towns and islands with gorgeous buildings and scenery like Croatia and Greece, with plenty to see and do, and most of all some lovely boutique hotels to stay in, if I’ve learnt anything – this is the time to treat yourself!

So if you are are looking for the best places for solo female travel in Europe, these are the destinations which left a lasting impression!

BEST PLACES TO TRAVEL IN EUROPE FOR SOLO WOMEN

A lot of solo travel ventures and self-discovery is ultimately what has brought me to this list of solo female travel places in Europe. I’ve personally visited each one of these gorgeous destinations – some more than once, here’s my favourite European places to visit for solo female travellers to inspire your next trip!

DUBROVNIK, CROATIA (Culture & Island scenery)

Dubrovnik was the first destination in Croatia I travelled to on a short solo trip and I was so blown away on that first visit that I’ve returned several times since. It’s the perfect-sized location for solo female travellers who like to keep busy with sightseeing, day trips and a bit of bustle, and the walled Old Town is super easy to navigate and car-free!

For me, the best thing is that you can fly into Dubrovnik Airport and be in the city in 20 minutes; it’s so close and you’ll only need four full days to see the highlights and to do it justice. As well as the beautiful Old Town, which is the perfect spot to stay in Dubrovnik, there’s the harbour with taxi boats for easy day trips to the islands and bays such as Cavtat or the Elaphiti Islands.

Dubrovnik really is a wonderful destination to visit alone, you will love the waterside restaurants, drinking coffee in the atmospheric squares and exploring the incredible heritage sites and stunning viewpoints, for all of those reasons and more, it will forever be one of my favourite places in Europe.

LAKE BLED, SLOVENIA (Serene lake & mountains)

Lake Bled in Slovenia is a little off-the-beaten-path gem that has stunning alpine scenery, a pretty lake and a gorgeous alpine village to explore. I immediately loved this place! It has just the right amount of attractions and tranquillity, and the best thing is it’s all walkable, even the lake!

Slovenia is not a big country and very easy to travel in, as I found out on my one-week rail trip there; it couldn’t have been simpler! I finished the trip in Lake Bled, but could also have stopped here for longer as it’s only 30 minutes from Ljubljana’s old town and the airport, which makes it one of the best places for solo female travel in Europe!

Lake Bled is a peaceful and clean place with a nice friendly village vibe – it reminded me a lot of Austria, even the alpine style lodges – pick a lovely guest house and enjoy the beautiful surrounds and nearby villages and viewpoints, or hike to the castle on top of the hill for the best view in town, there are lots of ways to enjoy your time here, especially in summer!

KORCULA ISLAND, CROATIA (Culture & wine)

Korcula is by far one of the most beautiful islands in Croatia that I’ve been lucky to explore more than once while island hopping in Dalmatia, I was in awe with the mountain scenery when I first arrived, and not only is it photogenic, but there’s also a historic town and vineyards to sample some of the best wine in Croatia!

Like much of the Croatian coastline, Korcula has a lovely, relaxed vibe about it and you have nothing to worry about walking or dining solo in the old town, which is the main place to stay in Korcula as everywhere is pedestrianised, low-key and reachable within a few minutes. It’s pocket-sized, which is the main draw for travelling alone in Europe!

And what I like most of all is that there’s an abundance of culture and cuisine to be involved in, from the vineyards and excellent wineries just ten minutes from Korcula’s Old Town to wandering the cobbled lanes, finding taverns or waterside dining in the prettiest part of town – and when you’re done, there are beaches and tiny islands to do boat trips to!

SANTORINI (Luxury Island escape)

Santorini needs no introduction or convincing of how stunning it is, but when visited alone as part of a wider island-hopping trip it was the island that left the biggest impression! I’ve since returned for a longer eight-night trip, treating myself to a Caldera view room in the most beautiful part of the Island – often called the most romantic area – Imerovigli.

It is the sort of place where your hotel makes all the difference, you could stay along the caldera with the most incredible view and infinity pool and never want to leave, but if you did, you are only a few minutes walk to the best cliff top restaurants, wine bars, the most gorgeous trails and viewpoints and a short taxi or bus ride to villages, vineyards and beaches.

I could never feel isolated or even bored in such a beautiful place with fantastic food, and when you are by yourself, you can have guilt-free infinity pool days, honestly, this island is terrific, and it only requires one 4-hour direct flight!

SOLLER, MALLORCA (Heritage & Island scenery!)

Charming Soller in Mallorca is one of the places that I had thoroughly researched before I arrived, it featured on my mini bucket list for years, so expectations were high and thankfully my hunch was right, I loved this gorgeous mountainous area of the island!

Soller is a wonderful upmarket destination and definitely one of the best places to travel alone in Europe, especially from the UK, where flights are plentiful and inexpensive! With short distances and easy transport, you can explore even the most scenic spots solo and easily (without hiring a car) and if you book a hotel with a pool by the seafront like I did, you get the perfect combination of exploring, sightseeing and relaxation!

In this corner of the island, there are many things to see, from the stunning, authentic hilltop villages of Valldemossa and Deia to Soller Port, which makes a wonderful seaside base with a bay, restaurants, boutique hotels and mountain vistas, and not only that, you can get around by historic train and a hop-on-off bus!

KOTOR, MONTENEGRO (Mountains & lakes)

Kotor, in the heart of Montenegro, is truly one of the last hidden gems in Europe, with bags of history, mountains, never-ending lakes and ancient cobblestones to get lost in, honestly this place really blew me away. I love mountains, but Kotor revealed so much more than scenery!

When I first arrived in Kotor I had few expectations, but I could never have imagined how much I would love it, and one of the things that amazed me was the drive over from Dubrovnik – stunning mountain vistas all around, right until we arrived in Kotor Bay!

Kotor is one of the most surprising but best places for solo female travellers to stay, it’s small enough to walk around and there are lots of things to do from hiking up to the fortress viewpoint to visiting the small village of Preset with the most picturesque backdrop and taking a day trip to Tara River and the black mountains – I managed to do all of this in three days, but honestly I hope to return someday!

HVAR ISLAND, CROATIA (Stylish Island escape)

Hvar and more specifically Hvar Town, is the island that has it all, and to date it’s the place I’ve travelled to alone in Europe the most and for good reason, it’s beautiful, walkable and there’s lots of things to see and do aside from gazing at the stunning island scenery!

I would happily spend a week in Hvar Town at the beginning of every summer, even though I’ve by now seen everything it offers: the attractive heritage town, long waterfront prom lined with yachts, palm trees, and restaurant terraces, it’s all just too alluring.

And on top of that, there’s a fortress viewpoint, vineyards and a group of smaller islands to discover just off the shore. Hvar Island is spectacular and the accommodation choices are just as amazing, some of the balcony views I’ve had have been nothing short of spectacular!

PAROS ISLAND, GREECE (Relaxed Island vibes)

Paros is one of the lesser-known islands of the Cyclades group in Greece and when I visited as part of an island-hopping trip, I thought it was heavenly, a relaxed, friendly place where you can really spend time in – definitely one of the best places for solo female travel in Europe.

Naoussa, especially is lovely and very aesthetically pleasing, it’s where I based myself for a week and a half and honestly, it could have been longer, I really fell in love with the whole vibe here! For solo female travellers, upmarket Paros strikes the perfect balance – not too quiet or too big and thankfully there are no cruise ships!

You’ll find all the typical gorgeous characteristics of the Cyclades; white washed houses, stone paths, amazing breakfast spots, attractive waterfront taverns, where you won’t feel out of place with a good book and glass of wine and the sea breeze!

SEVILLE, SPAIN (Cultural weekend break)

Seville is one of the most charming cities to visit in Europe and one of the main historic places to see in Andalusia Spain, truly, this location is just made for exploring, and while I’m not usually a city fan, Seville doesn’t make you feel like you’re in one!

I’ve actually visited Seville three times and have yet to really leave the old town, it’s the core of the city, the most beautiful part and it’s where you’ll spend most of your time exploring and sightseeing, pretty much all the sights and sounds are within this main spot, as are the gorgeous boutique hotels in Seville – I’ve honestly never seen so many!

It’s perfect for the solo female traveller looking for a shorter weekend break full of culture, you’ll get that and more here, from the cobbled lanes of Santa Cruz to the largest gothic cathedral in Europe and in between there’s heaps of tapas, flamenco and rooftop bars in Seville also worth your time – and you won’t feel silly tapasing alone – its all part of the scene!
