BEST AREAS TO STAY IN KORCULA CROATIA
KORCULA OLD TOWN
Best place to stay in Korcula for first-time visitors, restaurants, boat tours & attractions!

Korcula Town is very picturesque, and for most visitors, this is the best place to stay on Korcula Island, you’ll be within walking distance to the pedestrianised historic centre, stunning tree-lined prom, ancient architecture and the mountain views are just incredible, personally, I always stay in this beautiful area!
The entire town is surrounded by water (just like in staying Dubrovnik or Hvar old towns) and boasts a charming historic centre and old-town cobblestone lanes packed with cute boutique shops and hidden wine bars, while along the outside of the old town walls there’s upmarket seafront restaurant terraces, beaches and the island’s main harbour offering island hopping trips!
A stay in this vibrant area is a wonderful all-round experience and convenient for day trips and other island connections and while the UNESCO centre is what most visitors come for, it doesn’t get crowded and surprisingly there’s very few hotels in Korcula Town, but you will find my favourite, Heritage Korcula Hotel right along the waterfront with the most lovely coastal views!

KORCULA TOWN COAST
Best place to stay in Korcula for first-time visitors, beaches & coastal scenery!

Korcula Town looks almost like it’s own separate island and on either side there’s a curvy coastline with beautiful scenery and Mediterranean landscapes, where you’ll find a quieter ambience and accommodation ranging from villa-style boutiques to large resorts situated in private bays, it’s one of the best areas to stay in Korcula if you’re looking to be just outside the buzz of the old town!
As well as the picturesque views some of the more leisurely hotels with seaview balconies and pools are situated right along the waters edge, such as Boutique Hotel Korsal, just a 10 minute stroll to the heart of the old town, perfect for couples and some of the larger hotel such as, Aminess Liburna Hotel offer pools and private beaches – the furthest resorts have boat taxis and cater more to families and longer stays.
It’s certainly a scenic area of the island to stroll around and even better to stay for a serene atmosphere and relaxation, but just be aware that other than the hotels own restaurants, bars and water activities, there are no other amenities until you reach the old town walls!

LUMBARDA
Best place to stay in Korcula for quiet scenery, village vibes & vineyards!

Lumbarda is a postcard-perfect area in Korcula Island with a charming village (see above) just a 15-minute drive from Korcula Town, a well-known location for vineyards, wineries, beaches and trails to hike or cycle, which is also one of the very best things to do in Korcula!
Visitors are drawn to the rolling vineyards and wineries whether on curated tours or exploring at their own pace (easy to organise), so it can feel lively at the wineries in the height of summer, but beyond that, it’s one of the most relaxed and peaceful areas of Korcula – it really invites you to slow down and enjoy the countryside more than anything else!
If you plan on visiting lots of wineries and prefer a much smaller, quainter place to stay then it could be worth considering, I especially recommend this area for second or third visits as an alternative location to explore from, but there’s very few places to stay and things to do beyond the vineyards – if you’re after old town charm, restaurants and some nightlife – I would lean towards Korcula Town area!

VELA LUKA
Best place to stay in Korcula for quiet town and harbour vibes!

Vela Luka is the island’s second town and the furthest point away from Korcula Town with a 50 minute car journey passing through olive groves and hills, it is similar sized but has a totally different feel compared to the island more scenic and characterful areas, the terrain is much flatter and buildings less charming than what the old town offers!
This area is quieter, modern and more local, hardly any tourists visit this side of the island due to the location and most visitors arrive by catamaran right on Korcula Town’s harbour, which makes it the easiest choice to be based, although Vela Luka does have a lovely waterfront and harbour, it isn’t used in the same way!
The pretty bay is the best spot to spend time in, you’ll find laid-back restaurants, cafes and boutique accommodation like stylish Kastel Ismaeli offering sea-facing suites among Vela Luka’s palm-tree’s with bobbing sailboats, there isn’t an old town on this part of the island, so if you’re after old town vibes and cosy tavernas then I would stay in Korcula Town!

Best for: great-value boutique stays and old world charm!
San Teodoro is a great-value little boutique with only a handful of rooms overlooking the harbour on a vibrant corner of boutique shops and terraces, it’s the best hotel in Korcula for a old world charm experience with traditional cosy interiors, a stay here feels more authentic and quaint, if this is more you vibe, you will love this boutique!
The interior boats many historic details of this heritage hotel including original doors and stone walls and just outside the property there is a small terrace area where a delicious breakfast is served each morning – to avoid the smaller rooms, I highly recommend booking the double rooms with a balcony seaview, which overlooks the palm trees and harbour!

Stay Around Korcula Old Town If It’s Your First Visit
The historic old town and seafront are the best places to stay in Korcula, especially if it’s your first visit to the area, and Heritage Hotel Korcula is a top hotel choice, perfectly situated for reaching the landmarks, attractions, best restaurants, bars and boat trips on foot and the helpful tourist office is nearby!
Best Time To Visit Korcula Croatia
The best time to visit Croatia’s Islands is between May and September, I personally prefer mid-May to June or mid-September for better weather and fewer crowds, especially the beginning of summer, when the evenings are lighter, beaches are opening up and you can swim and visit the Croatian Islands!
How Many Days In Korcula
Many visitors arrive for a short stay or even a day trip if you’re very short on time, but I highly recommend 3 or 4 nights to explore Korcula Town, restaurants, visit Korcula’s beaches, islands and vineyards – or longer, depending on how much relaxing you want to do – you could easily choose a beachfront hotel in Korcula and stay for a week!
Korcula Old Town Is Compact And Walkable
Korcula Old Town is compact and very walkable, with many cobbled lanes and pedestrianised areas, including the entire walled town, making it a hassle-free, easy to get around and charming area to stay, just like Dubrovnik Old Town, Korcula Town and Hvar Town in the Dalmatian Region!
Korcula Island Is Very Seasonal
Korcula Island is very seasonal and is not a place for visiting in the ‘off season’ you’ll find the restaurants and vineyards closed to visitors and the beautiful terraces on Korcula’s prom sparse – most of it gets packed away from October until the following May – and you’ll want to visit Korcula at its most beautiful!
Getting Around Korcula Is Easy
Korcula Old Town is car-free and walkable, while car taxis, water taxis and excursions are available to get around the tiny islands, beaches and vineyards directly from Korcula’s old town port, which is also where you get the ferry to Mljet, Hvar, Dubrovnik or Split. It’s super convenient, especially if you are based in or near Korcula Town!
I’ve shared all my favourite spots, including historic gems and day trips, in my Things to Do in Korcula Croatia guide!
What To Pair With Korcula?
Korcula is ideally located for a multi-stop trip, my personal favourite island-hopping trip for after Korcula (presumably you’ll be staying in Dubrovnik beforehand) is vibrant Hvar Island – a totally different feel and style for 4 nights then 2 nights in tranquil and scenic Vis Island (if you have time) before rounding off your Adriatic trip with a stay in Split old town for 2 nights – this is my personal favourite itineraries!
