Why Visit Korčula from Dubrovnik

If you’re travelling through Southern Dalmatia, Korcula is an absolute must-see; it’s just two hours from Dubrovnik and all that’s in between is jaw-dropping scenery!

While Dubrovnik is buzzing night and day, Korcula is the more laid-back little sister, which makes you slow down and enjoy things like wine tasting in the vineyards, the lovely prom for strolling and wandering through the charming old town, it all feels very elegant.

I think it’s the perfect next stop after exploring Dubrovnik – close enough for a ferry ride, road trip or organised excursion, whatever your plans are Korčula’s relaxed charm makes it one of the most magical destinations to visit!

DUBROVNIK TO KORCULA BY FERRY

Journey: around 2-hours

Ticket prices: €20-30 – one way

Passenger Ferry: Book ferry tickets with Omio (Krilo (Kapetan Luka), TP Line)

Schedules: Morning and afternoon departures

Taking a catamaran from Dubrovnik to Korčula is by far the most popular and easiest way to travel between the two locations, and best of all, these fast passenger ferries are modern, comfortable, and offer beautiful views of the Adriatic as you pass by the islands!

The main operators are Krilo (Kapetan Luka) and TP Line, each run daily services in the warmer months (April–October). All catamarans depart from Dubrovnik’s Gruž Port, arriving directly into Korčula Town, just steps from the old city walls.

Your Dubrovnik to Korcula catamaran will include indoor seating, luggage space, and air conditioning; some even have small cafes. For speedy boarding, I recommend an e-ticket, which you can purchase in advance and once onboard, you’ll simply store your luggage in the racks inside.

My tip: I’ve taken the Krilo catamaran a few times and always found it smooth and scenic. Try to grab a window seat on the left-hand side (port side) for the best coastal views as you leave Dubrovnik or the open-air upper level!

DUBROVNIK TO KORCULA BY CAR (via Orebić)

Journey: 2-hour drive, 15-minute ferry (Orebic to Korcula – Dominče Trajekt)

Car Rental: Book with Discover Cars

Ferry: Book ferry tickets with Jadrolinija

If you are travelling around Croatia with a car, the Dubrovnik to Korcula (Orebic) coastal road trip is super scenic! Along the way, you can stop by the small medieval town of Ston with the second-longest defence wall in the world and the rolling vineyards of Peljesač peninsula.

(I stopped by both of these charming locations with a private guide from Split to Dubrovnik, so I know they are worth seeing if you want to explore as much of Croatia as possible!)

Orebic is a two-hour drive, but a beautiful one and this is where you’ll get the very short 15 minute Jadrolinija ferry crossing to Korcula – Dominče Trajekt, just a 6-minute drive to the heart of Korcula Town.

Tip! Arrive around 45 minutes before your ideal ferry time, you can check the ferry times and pre-book here!

Scenic view of Korčula Island’s waterfront with turquoise sea, palm-lined promenade, and boat anchored near the shore - perfect stop on the Dubrovnik to Korčula ferry route.

DUBROVNIK TO KORCULA DAY TRIP

Journey: 9-11-hour full day trip

Passenger Ferry: Book ferry tickets with Omio (Krilo (Kapetan Luka), TP Line)

Organised Tour: Korcula & Wine Tour from Dubrovnik

If you are really stuck for time but are desperate to see Korcula, and I don’t blame you, it is beautiful, there are a few options, all do take around 9-11 hours, so bear in mind that it’s going to be a long day and it will feel a little rushed, but it can also be full of adventure and fun!

I recommend either jumping on an easy, organised excursion, so all the logistics are taken care of or travelling with the passenger-only catamaran direct from Dubrovnik to Korcula to maximise your time on the island.

Day Trip Dubrovnik To Korcula By Ferry

You can take the earliest ferry departure (Krilo (Kapetan Luka), TP Line), usually around 7.30am and the latest 18.20 to return (subject to the days, time of year). This option gives you 8 hours to explore Korcula and you have the convenience of arriving right in Korcula Town!

You’ll have enough time to wander through Korcula’s old town, check out the Lumbarda vineyards and wineries for wine tasting – don’t miss Vitis Winery and have lunch by the sea. If you plan really well, you could also relax at the beach – I have listed my favourite spots in this Korcula guide and enjoy a lovely lunch by the water, there’s some fab restaurants in Korcula!

Tip: Book in advance during summer – foot passenger ferries between Dubrovnik and Korčula often sell out, especially the early morning departures.

Day Trip Dubrovnik To Korcula By Tour

If you prefer something more organised, I recommend this easy Korcula full-day tour, which takes you along a scenic 1.5-hour drive from Dubrovnik to attractive Ston, Peljesac peninsula and Korcula island, three fantastic spots in one trip!

It’s a very interesting tour and great for history and wine lovers, on your first stop you will get to see, the small medieval town of Ston, famous for the second largest city walls in the world, oyster farming (trying them is a must) and the oldest saltworks on the Mediterranean!

Afterwards, you will also swing by Peljesac Peninsula for panoramic views with epic rolling hill vineyards for wine tasting before heading to the beautiful landscapes of Korcula Island and the historic Korcula Town via a short ferry ride (15-20 minutes).

My recommended way to travel from Dubrovnik to Korcula:

One of my favourite personal ways to get from Dubrovnik to Korcula is the passenger-only catamaran – Krilo line (leaving around 11am for perfect check-in timing), which conveniently arrives in Korcula Town via a scenic ferry route alongside Mljet National Park. A few times per week, the catamarans even stop at the park; it adds a little time, but the journey is well worth it.

I recommend heading to the top deck and sitting in the open air for clear views and the sea breeze over the summer months. As soon as you near the national park, you’ll see more people scrambling to get up there!

I’ve visited Korcula a few times from Dubrovnik and always stay in Dubrovnik for at least three nights to begin with. Although I recommend four if it’s your first time. To see Korcula’s best attractions, you should aim for three full days to really do it justice. It’s just too good for a brief visit!

Travel Tips For Getting From Dubrovnik To Korcula:

To help your journey run smoothly and stress-free, here are a few quick Croatia travel tips I’ve learned along the way!

  1. Book ahead during summer: Ferries between Dubrovnik and Korčula fill up quickly in July and August, especially the morning departures. I always recommend booking at least a few days in advance online this goes for all ferry companies.
  2. Arrive early at Dubrovnik’s Gruž Port: It’s a small but busy terminal, so give yourself 30 minutes to check in, board and store your luggage.
  3. Pack light: Catamarans have limited luggage space, so keep things simple with one piece of luggage.
  4. Bring snacks and water: There aren’t always cafés on board the catamarans, and you might need a snack along the way, especially if you’ve gotten the ferry before 8am!
  5. Check schedules close to your travel date: Ferry times can change slightly each season and with the weather, so double-check before you go.
  6. Stay overnight if you can: Travelling from Dubrovnik to Korčula as a day trip is possible, but Korčula’s magic is really found overnight.
