A Complete Guide To The Best Beaches In Vis Croatia

A Quick Look At Vis Island Croatia!

Vis is one of the smallest Islands in Croatia and there are only a handful of towns and tiny villages to explore, the two main spots being Vis Town and Komiza. You can reach either in 20 minutes and there’s nothing much in between but jaw-dropping mountainous scenery, just how an island should be!

The best times to visit Vis Island are between May and September, I recommend June as the weather will be perfect for exploring the beaches in Vis and swim in the sea, plus all the amenities such as restaurants and transportation will be open, such as a boat tour around the Island!

Getting Around Vis Island Croatia

Before we dive into the best beaches in Vis, I wanted to touch on how you will be getting around the island to explore these beaches!

The island of Vis is about 56 square miles. While this may not sound large, the best beaches in Vis, Croatia are relatively spread out.

So, in order to see as many beaches as possible, I highly recommend renting a private boat while in Vis!

We chose a private boat trip and it was so much fun! You could also hire a car on Vis Island – from Vis Town, for this, you will need an international driver’s licence.

There’s also a handy bus that shuttles between Vis Town and Komiza, just 20 minutes apart and the main two places on Vis Island!

GUIDE TO THE BEST VIS BEACHES

Now that we’ve covered how to get around Vis Island, let’s jump right into the list of the best beaches in Vis Croatia!!

1. STINIVA BEACH

Of course, I have to start with the most famous beach on Vis Island – Stiniva Beach! Vis’s iconic white pebble-stoned beach sits in a small cove, flanked by limestone cliffs at either side with crystal clear blue water to swim.

This beach is completely natural, the only facility is a little bar cabin in the corner for drinks, but throughout the day this beach is visited a lot by little speed boats! Stiniva is frequently awarded top beach in Croatia and it’s super popular!

Visitors come from as far as Split and Hvar to enjoy this small but extremely attractive beach and it’s even more iconic due to it’s challenging accessibility!

If you’re accessing it from the land you’ll have to put your sturdy footwear on and hike down the cliff – this beach is an adventure!

Another way to access Stiniva Beach is from the water! If you take a boat tour of the nearby Blue Caves and Blue Lagoon, a stop at Stiniva will be included, this is my top recommendation as well!!

Stiniva Beach is among the most popular beaches in Vis with limestone cliffs, white stones and clear blue sea.

2. LUCICA BEACH

Next on the list is lovely Lucica Beach, located just a few minutes from the centre of Komiza Town. This beach is pebble beach supplies deckchairs and showers and there’s a small local beach bar, which is very popular as a sun-downer.

I visited this beach often during my stay in Komiza Town, it’s the best beach in the area and the walk is very nice, the whole harbour area is like a painting with traditional stone townhouses, some of which are now converted guest houses and apartments.

3. KAMENICE BEACH

At the opposite side of Lucica Beach is Kamenice Beach on the West Coast located right next to the town of Komiža on the island of Vis and with it comes a slightly different terrain.

It is a pebbly beach with a view of the open sea, which is clear and relatively calm and the whole area is surrounded by large cactus trees giving it a special feel.

On this beach there’s also a bar, which is open all day and into the evening hours, so you can have fun there after the sunset.

5. BEACH MILNA

Milna is small holiday area located in a natural bay, on the southern coast of Vis Island overlooking the open sea.

It is surrounded by beautiful, unspoiled nature, crystal clear sea, isolated islets and rocks and is blessed with several very beautiful beaches from pebble beaches to fine sand including Milna Beach.

The beach of Milna is not too crowded even in the height of summer and along with fine sand, which is rare in Croatia, you can also rent deckchairs.

If you are staying in a villa on Milna Bay, this beach is ideal, this incredible boat excursion of Vis Island’s South Coast also leaves from this bay.

6. BEACH ZAGLAV

Just a 15 minute walk through nature from the Bay of Milna is Zaglav Beach, the most beautiful beach in the area!

Zaglav Beach isn’t accessible by car to reach its shores you’ll have to walk through narrow paths and rugged terrain, but once there you will love this serene and sandy beach!

On this beach there’s a modest restaurant and beach bar, not much natural shade, so you will have to rent beach beds and parasols.

Pssst: Don’t forget to check out my guide on Where to Stay on Vis Island for hotel options and a breakdown by area!

4. GRANDOVAC BEACH

Another one of the most popular beaches in Vis that is perfect for summer is Grandovac Beach close to Kut neighbourhood, I especially enjoyed Grandovac Beach, it’s also a great option if you’re staying in Vis town.

This natural quiet beach is surrounded by pine trees and has views of passing sailboats, although the beach is pebbly (but most are in Croatia) the waters are calm and shallow, which are perfect clear blue swimming conditions!

I stopped in charming Kut Village – San Giorgio Boutique Hotel for a few nights, which I highly recommend and from there, you can easily walk to this beach in 10-15 minutes, through Kut village and a coastal path!

P.S. If you’re not staying at this hotel head there after your beach visit for delicious food and wine!

7. SREBRNA BEACH

Srebrna Beach Vis, also called Silver Beach is situated within a limestone cove with giant white pebbles, similar to what you find at Stiniva Beach – they are both situated on the south of the island so that’s why!

Silver Beach is among the most popular beaches in Vis, it has the clearest blue sea and a clean beach, the only thing is that there are no facilities at all, but you can get natural shade from the pine trees.

Srebrna is one of the top beaches on Vis Island that you should definitely include in your beach-hopping itinerary!

8. VELO ZALO BEACH

Velo Zalo is one of the most beautiful pebble beaches in Vis! Situated just 5 minutes from Komiza Town, Velo Zalo is sheltered by the natural shade of pines and the sea is extremely clean for swimming.

You can get a taxi boat there from Komiza or even Kayak around the bay of Komiza. Velo Zalo is a lovely natural beach without any facilities, but this is part of the charm!

As a remote beach, Velo Zalo still has that undiscovered feeling, you can often have it to yourselves away from the tourist crowds even in the height of summer!!
