HOW TO GET TO TROGIR FROM SPLIT

SPLIT TO TROGIR BUS/COACH

A coach is the most affordable and frequent option for getting to Trogir from Split. Flix Bus and Arriva offer reliable and air-conditioned coaches every hour taking around 40 minutes from the Coach Station (10 minute walk from the old town). Book your ticket in advance with Omio

SPLIT TO TROGIR FERRY

The Bura Line Trogir to Split ferry runs a regular ferry service to Trogir, with a journey time of around 50-60 minutes. It is a longer route, but you do get some nice coastal scenery along the way! Split’s ferry port is opposite the coach station, and you’ll need to arrive 30 minutes beforehand.

SPLIT TO TROGIR TAXI/UBER

For convenience, you can book a taxi from either side of Split’s Riva. An Uber will be less expensive – around €55 each way.

SPLIT TO TROGIR DRIVING

If you have a rental car, you can easily reach Trogir in 30 minutes and visit nearby places! Parking is available next to the bus station – just a few minutes walk to the old town entry bridge. I always recommend Discover Cars for the best rates!

SPLIT TO TROGIR ORGANISED TOUR

Another option is to take a fantastic full-day private boat tour. This scenic boat trip covers Trogir old town and nearby small islands, including Solta and the crystal clear waters of the Blue Lagoon! It was one of our best experiences in Croatia on the water! Book it 1-2 weeks in advance!

BEST THINGS TO DO IN TROGIR

TROGIR OLD TOWN

Trogir Old Town Alleyways

Trogir’s UNESCO heritage town immediately transports you back to another time! You’ll come across lots of historic gems and beautiful buildings roaming around the charming cobble lanes and squares – it’s also my favourite way to find a little table for two across an atmospheric alleyway!

St Lawrence Cathedral & Bell Tower

On your wander through the town, stop by St Lawrence Cathedral and climb the Bell Tower for fantastic views! It’s one of the prominent heritage sights in Trogir from the 15th century and it’s conveniently located right on the Piazza – the main square, which is also the perfect spot for a break, try Corte Bar for coffee and people watching!!

Waterfront Promenade Terraces

Trogir’s super attractive waterfront is lined with palm trees, buzzing cafes and 15th-century Venetian architecture. It is the most popular spot to walk, and in the early evening, the area becomes vibrant as the terraces fill up and luxury yachts line the harbour- I recommend grabbing an egg chair at Dionis to watch it all unfold!! (See below.)

Kamerlengo Fortress

Kamerlengo Castle sits at the top end of Trogir’s waterfront and offers sweeping views over the water, Riva and mountains beyond. Although the castle is now an empty ruin with not much to see (apart from a few concerts throughout the summer), the views and observatory level more than make up for it – especially if you visit at sunset, the colours are magical!

Markets, Galleries & Boutique Shopping

Amongst the narrow alleyways, squares and promenade, you’ll find boutique jewellery shops and artisan stalls filled with all sorts of art and craftsmanship items and souvenirs to buy! You can pick up original pieces or a keepsake to take home with you as a reminder of your amazing day trip to Trogir from Split!

BEYOND TROGIR OLD TOWN

Brown Beach House

In the early evening you can enjoy a change of scene and relax in luxury at the Brown Beach House just a few minutes walk from the centre of Trogir. A luxury boutique hotel and spa, housed in a former tobacco factory with stylish design, a scenic waterfront view and sun terrace – to enjoy a cocktail or two!

Laganini Beach Club – Ciovo Island

If you have spare time, pop over to beach club Laganini on Ciovo Island – best beaches in Trogir area, it’s my favourite spot for sunbathing, swimming and lounging! Immerse yourself in the all-white boho luxe vibe and enjoy the pretty sea views! I recommend taking an Uber, it’s around a 10-15 minute drive and €10.

Blue Lagoon

The dreamy waters of the Blue Lagoon are only 40 minutes from Trogir, it’s the perfect combination for a day trip from Split! Snorkelling and swimming in this location is unbeatable, the lagoon can only be reached by boat from Split or Trogir old town and it’s usually paired with three smaller nearby islands.

WHERE TO EAT IN TROGIR

On your day trip to Trogir from Split, you are spoilt for choice with lunch options, there are some great local restaurants and fabulous terraces to dine on! Here’s where to eat in Trogir – my favourite spots!

Franka

FRANKA is a gorgeous family restaurant and the best restaurant in Trogir’s old town. It’s situated down an attractive cobbled lane within a peaceful area. It’s the perfect place for a fresh tuna steak; it was the tastiest meal of my Croatian trip!

Gelato Bar Bella

A proper homemade gelato bar in Trogir old town with delicious flavours from fresh lemon and everyone’s favourite pistachio to fig and ricotta, don’t miss it if you fancy a gelato!

Dionis Bar & Restaurant

An upscale Mediterranean restaurant and terrace in a prime position along the waterfront. Dionis is a great option for a fancy lunch or just an sunset Aperol – there’s lots of sofas and egg chairs to lounge!

Chi Coffee Shop

Grab a coffee at Chi for the best artisan coffee in Trogir, there is limited seating, so I recommend ordering to go, where you can sit along the waterfront!

Konoba Trs Trogir

A lovely 5 star restaurant within the old town, I stopped for a small plate (Dalmatian ham, olives, bread, and a glass of wine) and picked a spot within the charming alley, I recommend it!

How long do you need in Trogir?

Trogir is compact and incredibly walkable, which makes it ideal for a half-day trip from Split. In just a few hours, you can wander the charming cobbled streets, climb the bell tower for panoramic views, explore the fortress, and enjoy a long, lazy lunch by the water.

If you’re short on time, 3 to 4 hours is enough to see the highlights and get a feel for the town’s vibe. But if you have the flexibility, staying for a full day allows you to explore at a slower pace – maybe even squeeze in a few cocktails at Laganini boho beach club on Čiovo Island, with the best beach near Split!

Whether you go in the morning to see the sights and lunch or for a relaxed afternoon trip from Split, Trogir makes for a great escape that won’t take up your whole day!

TIPS FOR VISITING TROGIR FROM SPLIT

When To Visit Trogir

Trogir is no longer the hidden gem it once was, in summer the harbour is popular with boats and yachts and the old town is busy with coach trips and heritage tours, making it a bustling place by midday! So I recommend arriving early in the morning to explore without the crowds or late afternoon to catch the sunset!

Choosing Your Transport

If you’re after speed and convenience, coaches leave regularly from Split and take about 35 minutes. For something more scenic? Take the ferry – it’s a slower but beautiful ride along the coast. Or, if you’re up for a little luxury, book a private boat excursion for a chic, stress-free experience!

Comfortable Footwear

Trogir’s charm lies in its old-world streets, but that also means uneven stone and lots of walking. Stylish, comfortable shoes will be your best friend here, especially for climbing the Fortress steps and ladder to the viewpoint!

Combine Experiences

To make the most of your day, you could pair Trogir with a swim stop at nearby Laganini Beach Club on Čiovo Island, or pop into a vineyard for a wine tasting on your way back to Split!

What To Pack

Bring the essentials:

Is Trogir from Split worth it?

Yes! Trogir is absolutely worth visiting, it’s one of the most attractive places along the coastline from Split, it’s close by and full of charm, history and Adriatic scenery!

BOOK HOTELS IN SPLIT

Croatia trips usually start with at least 3 days in Split, which I recommend, especially if it’s your first visit! Split is a lovely coastal city, and the old town is magnificent! Here’s where I recommend staying:

TROGIR FROM SPLIT FAQ

How far is Trogir to Split?

Trogir is only 29 km from Split and the journey time is around 35 minutes.

What is the best Trogir day trip from Split?

I recommend combining a visit to Trogir old town with the incredible Blue Lagoon and small islands – experienced by private speedboat! Trogir is very compact and you can see it all on a couple of hours so this private speedboat tour of the area is perfect and it’s one I’ve personally experienced in 2022!

Is the bus to Trogir from Split worth it?

You can get a regular bus to Trogir from Split and vice versa, it’s bus line no 37, BUT having experienced the Trogir Split bus, I wouldn’t recommend it. The journey is much longer, not very scenic, and the bus stops too many times, plus the regular bus station in Split is really far away from the old town!

TROGIR TO SPLIT – FINAL THOUGHTS
